We (my fiance and i) originally planned a dinner at Boma and a dinner at Jiko. After reading your suggestions, I am very confused. Should we switch to Boma for breakfast insteaad, or is dinner great too? We were planning to do the Boma dinner first (before our Jiko dinner a few nights later) since it is a buffet, and we are not sure about the African-style food. Please help!!

We have done both and we love BOTH!! I am really just a meat and potatoe type girl but I really liked the food. It was different but everthing is labeled and there are plenty of options. We are heading back to the world in April and breakfast and dinner are on our list of must do's!! HTH

Boma is our FAV dinner! It's a must for us! We really enjoyed Jikos too- it was a nice relaxing dinner with fabulous wine. If you like red I highly recommend the "Pinotage"- a wonderful S.African wine!

Joining in as I am very interested in the responses. We are staying at AKL for the first time this spring and have dinner booked at Boma.

We love breakfast at Boma but the one time we tried dinner there we didnt like it at all

I just (90 minutes ago! :cool1:) booked a breakfast and dinner at Boma for our upcoming trip. Both are wonderful; there is enough "everyday" food for those who aren't adventuresome, and wonderful, less "everyday" food.

DH is a meat-and-potatoes type of guy; our first visit to Boma he came back to the table, excited, to announce "there are THREE types of hummus on the buffet!". We were back for (an unscheduled) dinner two nights later.

Do folks think Boma breakfast is worth seeking out even if staying elsewhere, like at the WL? I guess I mean, is it a good destination breakfast?

How do non-AKL guests work it into your daily plans?

That is a tough one as both of them are great!! Really depends on how much of a breakfast person you are;)

I've never been there for breakfast but really enjoy their dinner.

Going back next month. We have often done the dinner only but in August we finally did breakfast. We were staying there so why not?! Everytime I go from now on, I will be doing both breakfast and dinner.

We really like Boma. I am not an adventurous eater, and I found plenty to eat for both meals. If you don’t have a car or aren’t staying at the resort, it can be difficult to get to the restaurant for breakfast. I found the breakfast to contain more “normal” foods.

I don't eat a large breakfast so the breakfast buffets aren't for me. Boma dinner is my favorite meal on property and on many of my trips it is my only ADR. I eat ethnic food often and the food there is toned down compared to more authentic African restaurants but that is pretty standard for Disney offerings. There are a lot of options and there is a station of more standard fare for kids or picky eaters.

Dinner.

I do not like breakfast foods, but Boma dinner is one of my favorite meals on property. We are eating it our 1st night the end of January. The selection is fabulous and I can honestly say that there wasn't anything I didn't like. I hightly recommend it.

BOTH

Can't wait to stay at AKL so we can have easy access to Boma, Jiko,
the pools....love that resort.

I've loved Boma dinner both times we ate there (May & Dec., 2009) I'm highly favoring AKL for our next trip (probably in 2012 when grandson will be 8) and would book Boma for both breakfast and dinner then.

We are staying at AKL in April and have booked Boma for dinner, and a breakfast! Also Sanaa for dinner one night :) If not staying at ALK I would book a breakfast early before hitting AK park. Or dinner after touring AK, just my opinion hope it helps:rotfl:

Both - but you may prefer one over the other.

Breakfast consists of a buffet of well-prepared high quality food. It is *mostly* typical breakfast food, though. There are some adventurous accents, but one could dine only on the familiar items and have an excellent breakfast. Highlights for me: cooked to order omelets, grilled tomatoes, unbelievable chocolate pastries with a hint of coconut and coarse sugar melted on top.

Dinner has more of an African accent. There are more adventurous dishes here. Almost all of the dishes are at least African-ish (with the only exception being the kids' station). There are more dishes in general, and much more variety. There are several meat selections at the meat station, with sauces that can be added (or not). There are TONS of side dish options, all of which were unique and delicious. There is a hummus bar. There are always 2 delicious soups. The desserts are varied and interesting. Although the food here is not meat-and-potatoes plain, you will find familiar flavors and most of it seems comforting and homey. My husband loved every meat he tried. I liked everything I had, but I remember the falafel and African pasta salad the most. My daughter ADORED the potato bacon soup.

If we had to pick one, we would pick dinner. On our next trip, we will make it a point to do both, though. It's kind of funny that we liked both meals so much, because we don't typically like buffets.

FYI - I will not eat at Jiko again. We ate there in 07 and then January of 09. Both visits were disappointing, overall. There are high points. The appetizers were delicious both times. We tried dessert the first time and it was to-die-for. My husband liked his entree the first time, but the second time, it was blah. Both entrees that I tried were among the most disappointing entrees I've had on property. They tried to convince me that they intentionally cooked beans "al dente". Hard, chalky beans are not appetizing, no matter what Italian phrase you attach to them. Service this past January was slow and weirdly unconcerned (if that's even a word). Just because you are eating at a fine dining establishment doesn't mean you wish to spend 2.5 + hours there. On the plus side, it's a really spectacular dining room - dark and dreamy. For the $$$, we would rather eat at Flying Fish or California Grill. We prefer Boma to Jiko. Go figure.

Ok, now I'm really confused! LOL
Thanks to you all.
I guess the reason for my confusion is that we are staying over at POFQ. If we do breakfast, we would hit the buffet and then go over to AK for a few hours. If we are definitely going to do a Jiko dinner, should we waste our time at the Boma breakfast? Wouldnt we just be better off to go have a breakfast at Tusker House in AK twice during our trip? How far of a journey is it to AK from AKL? Also, does anyone know where to find the restaurants' serving hours? That info might make our decision a little easier>
Thanks again!
