We've never been to AKL, so we want to eat here once on our trip. I've heard that Boma's is very good. No one in my family is what you would call an adventurous eater, so I'm nervous about trying this place.

We're on the dining plan and are considering eating here for either dinner on a Tuesday night or ending our trip by having Sunday brunch here. I thought I read they change the menu daily and it looked like Tuesday night's speciality was salmon, which no one in my family likes. Any input or advice would be greatly appreciated!

I'm kind of leaning towards dinner so we can try the wonderful zebra domes I've read so much about here. First, does anyone have a picture of them or can you describe them? Second, does anyone know if you can buy them elsewhere? For example, does AKL have a bakery or counter service place that sells them?

We went to Boma for dinner in October. I loved it. It is different but my husband is Morrocan so we were happy that cous cous was on the menu that night the kids loved that.

From what i have read on various sites the zebra domes are available at Mara which is the AKL counter service place.

both are great meals, but dinner is really great. All sorts of exotic foods, but not frighteningly exotic, lots for the not so adventurous diner, wonderful desserts.

Well, I'm going to be the disagree-er. But actually it's kind of a hard call. We are not very adventurous. There were 4 of us, DH, my sister and friend and me for dinner. None of us really cared for it at all except for the desserts. They were really good. Although, sometimes I do wonder if we got more "traditional" food since it was "Africa week" or something like that and they mentioned several special dishes made just for this occasion.

Breakfast was nice, but really we didn't think anything spectacular from any other buffet except for the juice. We loved that. So if we had a choice again to choose Boma, it would be for breakfast, since we did like the food for that.

The resort is lovely though and worth seeing and most people do really like Boma. So I think either one is a good choice.

I have agonized over this question myself. We decided on dinner and if we like it we can go again for breakfast (either in the same trip or another). My DH is pretty adventureous, I am some and my 9 yo is pretty adventureous (for a 9 yo). We always told her to try everything and what she doesn't like she doesn't have to eat. We picked dinner because although I am sure there are different things for breakfast than the usual, I bet there is a lot of usual things too. So to get more out of the experience we opted for dinner. If we don't like it, we just won't eat there for dinner again, but would still try breakfast. My vote: try dinner.

We've eaten there for both breakfast and dinner and my family all felt breakfast was the best. We also thought this was the best breakfast we had at WDW (food wise). To compare we've eaten breakfast at CRT, Crystal Palace, & 1900 Park Fare. :flower:

We`re trying" Breakfast", @ Boma`s this year, for the first time! Can`t wait to try the " Frunch "!!! :goodvibes

I ate there for dinner and just loved it! My wife is one of the most picky eaters on the planet and liked it as well. It was a very neat place to eat and I'm glad I tried it. I didn't get the chance to try it for breakfast because of getting ready for the parks in the morning. When I stay there again I think I might though, next time.

And just did Breakfast this past Sunday....was not that impressed, liked Dinner BETTER! :confused3 :p

Have never done breakfast, so I can't speak to that, however dinner at Boma is a must-do for us every trip. We have been for every rotation and I can't say I remember any menu being particularly salmon-intensive. (I would remember because DH would have whined non-stop about the salmon.)

We can't say enough great things about Bom'a dinner. Admittedly, we are pretty adventurous eaters, even DD7. But, remember, you're on vacation and it's not your last meal. Try some new items. The great thing about Boma is that it's a buffet. If you don't like something, don't finish it. They have an "American" table if all else fails. But, I would really encourage you to use that as a last resort. One night we sat next to table of 3 adults eating plates of macaroni and cheese, chicken fingers and such. We left at the same time. In the elevator, they were complaining about how there was nothing to eat at that restaurant! I was dumbfounded--I'm sure my mouth was open! :rotfl:

Anyway, I just don't get that excited about breakfast (and you can get Fru'unch at dinner, just ask). Eggs, breakfast meats, etc. can only be done so many ways. Doesn't light my fire--rather eat an Atkins bar and save room for dinner!

If you do for dinner, ask for Maureen as your server. She is friendly and knowledgeable and makes great suggestions--and is just a delightful person to have around.

Enjoy!

Agree that Boma is good for any meal. But I prefer dinner over breakfast at Boma's.

We love breakfast there!! We always eat once if not twice there. I love this resort also, we stayed there last year and can't wait to go back

I would definately recommend going to Boma's for dinner. I am NOT an adventurous eater. I still pick out "green things" from my food, and I'm 23. However, I do have to say that when we ate at Boma's for the first time, I was set on eating off the kid's bar (all the way on the right of the buffet-you can't miss it), but I was surprised at how much I tried, liked, and ended up eating.
Since that first trip, my family and I have been there to eat three trips in a row. As good as the dinner is, everyone in my family (and, come on, most of the families around you-ADMIT it!!) are really rushing through their meal to get at the ZEBRA DOME!!!
The ONLY downside to Zebra Domes is that, 3 years ago, they were MUCH bigger. They have shrunk to a much smaller, more "bite-sized" version than we got the first time we went. Zebra Domes are little dome shaped desserts with chocolate stripes on them, and taste a little bit like chocolate moose, chocolate pudding, and whipped cream all together, but better. It's very, very rich, so it kind of sucks because you can't eat 50 of them in one sitting, although that first year, we sure did try.
If you go there for dinner, I am sure you will enjoy it. Happy eats to you!

Also, I can't seem to get a picture of the Zebra Domes; if you would like to see what it looks like, there's a picture of one-go to the Restaurants topic in the forum list; there is a thread titled:POST YOUR PICTURE OF DISNEY DINING FOOD HERE. There is a picture of the Zebra Domes there. Hope that helps???

Yes, you can get Zebra Domes at Mara, the counter service restaurant at AKL. They come in packages of 4. You can also get a package of Zebra Domes & Chocolate Mousse Crunches, which are also delicious little bite size pastries served at Boma.

As far as Boma, we enjoy it very much. But, I like Fresh for breakfast better. Since I'm not a big breakfast eater, I'd save my one big brunch for there. I didn't know you could get Fru'unch for dinner! I'll definately be asking for it next time!
