We are staying at AKL, Jambo and was wondering if one needs reservations for Boma breakfast for 2?

When we did breakfast there in February we overheard the host telling walkups that the wait was about 45 minutes.

Definitely. It's a very popular restaurant so getting in on a walk up is difficult. We had an ADR last month and we still ended up waiting 10 minutes and that was for a late breakfast when it was starting to slow down.

Wow, this is a bummer, that BIG restaurant and all I hear is how AKL is "out of the way" bla....bla....bla....so much for being spontaneous...

It's a fan favorite and a big draw for the guests staying. We were a party of 2 and had reservations for breakfast and still waiting about 15 minutes for seating - in September. I'd recommend getting one if possible - you could try walk up but it might be a bit of a wait.

I would say at most times, yes. However, if you go right at open (730?), the can probably get you in with a shorter wait. It seems to be pretty dead until just after 8..

I’m sorry, Disney banned spontaneous dining years ago. They live and die by adrs. Tha5 a walkup was entertained at all is amaz8ng

Make adrs. Try even that morning or the night before

In November I was able to book garden grill at 830 on a Sunday. I went online at 8ish. I was at the BC so an easy walk over. But never expect t9 walk up. Disney just doesn’t work that way. Which is a shame

Well this just stinks, but it is what it is, there is nothing more irritating to me then waiting for a table in a restaurant and get quoted for 60 min+ wait, ugm no way, if it is not 10 mins or less then we just move on, really dislike the ARD as for the most part we dont really know where we are going to be 180 days out......who know, like this week Star Wars announced they are opening the week we are there, man that puts a kink in the plans......... :(

Funny thing is I put in breakfast as a time and 945 popped up, so I looked at the hours and 730-11 for breakfast, I put in 730 and low and behold 750 showed up..................oh brother.....so thank guys for letting me know that ARD's are really needed.........

I see you're all set, but typically you can get a pretty last minute ADR. Anybody with one needs to cancel by the day before, in order to not be charged the no show fee. Not 100% spontaneous, but always check that evening, even the morning of the day you want to eat.

True spontaneity = The Mara.

Can you imagine if AKL weren't considered out of the way?.

yes. Last year we ate there for Breakfast. I think we had ADRs for about 10 and there still was a line waiting.

There have been times I have been lucky to land an ADR the night before or sometimes earlier in the same day, but there have been more times than not I ended up just doing a quick serve because I was not lucky. I don't even risk it anymore and just make my ADR's at the 180 day mark, and now with having to secure the restaurant with a credit card hold, I no longer try to find an ADR on the same day. Unfortunately with WDW we need to book the restaurants at 180 days and FP+ at 60 days, and before you know it we are going to have to make a reservation at least 60 days out just so we can have the privilege to use the restroom.

Thanks that made me laugh!!

I hear ya on that, out of the way........bla.....

Mara is on our hit list if things dont go as planned........thanks

I am truly shocked by this, we ate there for dinner before with ADR and did indeed have to wait about 20 or so mins....

We were there in August, and there was availability every 'next morning' before 8. After going once, we ended up going a second time.

I respectfully disagree. Absolutely ADRs can - and some should - be booked at 180 days. If it's a must do, sure. But flexibility works, too.

yep! we typically book day-of or day prior. Have not booked at 180 days in....years!!!!!

That's fine, you can respectfully disagree, I respect that... To each their own and we all do Disney differently. I am just one that will not chance it since most of the one's I book are the ones that I want to do. About as flexible I will be is checking the day before to see if a restaurant is available that I may have an interest in or we have had a change of plans. Other than that, generally our plans are set in stone.

For our December 16 night adult trip we only booked long term ADRs for the actual days of Christmas Day and Eve, NYE, a personal celebration, and a popular weekend brunch. Every other reservation was either made on site, or was a walk-in at Disney Springs.
Very relaxing and little need to coordinate park time with ADRs.

Not sure how this strategy will work on our next trip w/ the kiddos but we'll see.

AKL maybe out the way but it’s still a very large hotel. Those opening breakfast slots are going to be popular with guests at the hotel before hitting the parks.

Basically every TS restaurant will require an ADR. Lots of the time you can get them the night before or morning of. Places like Epcot where there are more TS restaurants than say MK will be easier to get, Disney Springs restaurants are usually easier too.

If you want a specific restaurant than you want to book early rather than later. Don’t just check via breakfast, lunch or dinner. Try specific times too.
