BROOKE AND STEFFY'S PLAN TO SAVE RICK

Rick makes a subtle suggestion to Brooke this week - that Steffy leave her job so he can keep his and they can be together - and Brooke takes the ball and runs with it.

"Is Rick a good guy? Is he a bad guy? Does he really love Steffy? Is he out to get Ridge? When he puts the idea into Brooke's ear, it is iffy," concedes Jacqueline MacInnes Wood. "But Steffy is in love with Rick, completely head over heels, and just knowing that people don't want them together makes it even stronger for them. It's not that they want to fight everyone, but their hold on each other is going to be even tighter. So she knows that Rick does need this, and she's willing to do it to help him out."

That's exactly what Brooke hopes for when she visits Steffy to discuss Steffy's relationship with her son. "They're on the same page," which is great for Steffy, notes Wood. "Her whole family's against it, so it's making it more secure for Steffy - 'If I can make one person, Rick's mom, be okay with this, then I can can eventually turn everyone's opinions of Rick around.' At least that's what she is hoping."

Brooke makes her pitch to Steffy to help save Rick's job by stepping down. "Steffy enjoys working at Forrester and working her way from the bottom to the top, but she realizes that after everything Rick has done for her - and obviously it hasn't been all the greatest things - she doesn't want him to leave," explains Wood. "It's shocking when Brooke puts it out there. But in a way, Steffy's happy that Brooke has her back on this."

"She's a Forrester, it's not like she can never come back. It is her family. That comes into play. She's hoping that Brooke's idea will work but it's definitely shocking," sighs Wood. Brooke and Steffy comes to an accord and Steffy fills Ridge in on her plans."There's definitely going to be a lot of hurt people in this," says Wood. "Even with just the thought of Steffy trying to step down, there's going to be a lot of arguing. But hopefully she can still get through to her dad."

Too bad Ridge has plans of his own for Rick and Steffy. "Steffy just wants to be loved. She wants everything at ease. Even though she's making a lot of drama and stirring the pot in the end she wants to be drama-free - which I doubt will ever happen," laughs Wood.

Caroline was the beautiful and innocent daughter of publishing magnate Bill Spencer, and was in love with Ridge Forrester. She was all set to marry Ridge when her father produced photographs of Ridge with his old girlfriend, Alex Simpson. Caroline was determined to go through with the marriage, but collapsed before she could say her vows. Caroline ended up in the hospital, where she was visited and befriended by Brooke Logan. After being released from the hospital, Caroline moved into her own apartment, but her life was forever changed after she allowed seemingly friendly Ron Deacon to walk her home one day and he forced his way into her apartment and raped her. Unable to return to her apartment, Caroline moved in with the Logans.

When Ron Deacon went to trial, his lawyer tried to tarnish Caroline's reputation by suggesting that it was a case of morning after jitters, but Ridge took the stand for Caroline, testifying that she was insistent on remaining a virgin until she was married. Ridge wrote Caroline a beautiful love letter, but Brooke, who was in love with Ridge, teamed up with Thorne, who was in love with Caroline, to keep the letter from her, and Caroline accepted Thorne's marriage proposal, believing there was no future for her and Ridge. Caroline eventually learned of the letter, but went through with her marriage to Thorne, Brooke standing in as her maid of honor. Caroline later had second thoughts when she found out about Brooke's feelings for Ridge, but by then it was far too late.

Caroline was furious with both Brooke and Thorne for manipulating her by hiding the letter from her, and told Brooke that their friendship was over. She agreed not to tell Ridge about the letter on the condition that Brooke stay away from Ridge, which she agreed to do. Even though Brooke soon broke her promise, Caroline kept quiet.

After a drunken encounter with Ridge, Caroline and Thorne eventually broke up, and Ridge and Caroline wed. Unfortunately, she was diagnosed with cancer not long after, and she and Ridge had only a short period of time together before she passed away. Caroline never met her twin sister Karen, who had been kidnapped as in infant and came to Los Angeles after Caroline's death.
