hi so excited. in half planning mode at the moment .reading simon's book from cover to cover !

we've done the Boggy Creek airboat ride at East Lake fish camp which was thrilling and we were thinking of doing the ride at Southport Park on Lake Toho as we're staying in Poinciana Blvd anyway .

has anyone done the airboats on Lake Toho and could give us some thoughts if it's worth doing? Simon says its quieter but there's more wildlife.

thanxx!

Hi Kate

You said you've done one side of the Boggy Creak Airboats, how did you find this?? It says its only 45 mins of a ride, did you find this was long enough?

Thanks
Lisa

Hi Lisa
we did our ride at East Lake fish camp in 1998 so if my memory serves me correctly the ride was about 30mins because it was very busy and one of the boats had broken down and we had to wait ages . we saw mother alligator with her babies on the lake which was exciting but to be honest we didnt see anything else but the ride itself was thrilling . slap plenty of sun cream on the knees as they can get sunburnt . ouch!

anyone done theBoggy Creek ride at southport rd?????

cheers

In warmer weather you struggle to see many gators during the day as they lurk under the reeds to keep cool. You do still see plenty of birdlife but if gators are the main reason for your trip you could think about the nighttime rides as you have a much higher chance of seeing a gator as this is the time of day they are most active. I thought it was a lot of fun, even though I would probably choose to go either in winter or at night next time.

We did the Southport Park airboats back in September. We arrived around 9am on a coolish morning and got straight on the first boatride of the day. What a treat. There were loads of gators to be seen. Lots of birds including a couple of bald eagles which were perched by the dock. Also noticed some deer on the banks of the lake. We haven't done the East Lake airboats but have heard from a few folks that its a wee bit better than Southport but until we try it i couldnt say. we have definitely marked down a night time trip on our next visit.

thanx Graeme for info. will try southport park just for the experience methinks to compare the 2 lakes.

Lisa i forgot to say it was august when we went so perhaps as vernon says it was too hot to see much wildlife ( b*****y hot actually as i remember!)
the ride itself was thrilling so just go for that rather than the wildlife perhaps choosing a night time ride instead if that 's the reason for going.

we did an airboat ride inthe everglades in 2001 on a much bigger boat which was incredible, much faster, tighter turns and very burnt knees!!LOL

ok next question has anyone done the night time rides at either boggy creeks?

baggsie (sp?)the front seats!!!!

Yes, I've done the night-time ride a couple of times and, on a clear night, it is a real thrill; very different from the day experience; they manage to find LOTS of gators and the whole style gives a dramaticallt different feel. If you combine it with their evening dinner/show (Gator Safari By Night - www.gatortours.com), you get an excellent evening out.

Thanks for the advice. We are thinking of either doing it in March or December, probably December as it will be cooler then.

Hi, We have done an everglades trip which was fantastic but dont want to travel so far this time. I think we will try the southport park one too, we are going in may so i think we will have to go early in the day... im really hoping to see some gators!! ::yes:: The night tour sounds good too:wave2:
