BOG lunch - soup instead of dessert?

With the supposed new rules for the dining plan, you can substitute a side for dessert? So I was wondering if I can get soup at BOG instead of dessert. Or if their French Onion soup is even very good! I know I can get it with a snack credit, but there's no way I could eat that and dessert! It would be too much food!

I think the soup is considered an appetizer, not a side. I'm not sure if it would work. I think their soup is amazing!

We've always used a snack credit to get the soup. I'm also wondering if you can now substitute the dessert for the soup.

We're on the free QS dining plan, so planning on a late lunch there one day (we have a 2:15pm ADR). Dinner menu doesn't appeal to us there anyway (and it's way overpriced in my opinion, especially based on the very mixed reviews I've read). Cupcakes don't really thrill me, especially right after a meal - I'll be too full probably! I would consider taking it in a carry-out box to go for a little later though.
BTW, how is the soup? I enjoy French Onion Soup sometimes, so thought it may be fun to try!

I love the French Onion soup at BOG! It's nice and cheesy. I also love the Potato Leek soup. I'm not a fan of the cupcakes at all.

I'm interested to know this too! We will be there in December for both a lunch and a dinner (not same day). We are big water drinkers and love French Onion soup - so if we could swap that would be awesome. I would swap for dessert too if they wouldn't let you do the drink.
