BOG I Just Don't Get It

For me, neat themeing but the food was not all that great. Been there, seen it. It's a one and done for me.

We tried all the lunch sandwiches and thought none of them were good, but the braised pork was excellent. Cupcakes and potato leek soup were ok (with strawberry cream cheese the best of the lot) and the French onion soup was terrible. I agree with a PP - MK is lacking in decent QS and this is nearly the best of the lot (CHH is our favorite) which is a shame.

I agree. The best reason to eat here is if someone in your party rates Beauty & The Beast as their all-time favorite Disney movie, especially if that person is under 12. I see so many Dis-ers stressing to get an ADR here, I sure hope they like it better than I did. :earsboy:

Never tried lunch there but we had dinner and the braised pork was delicious, which I believe is also on the lunch menu.

We did have the QS breakfast 3 times during our trip, they always told us about the drinks and utensils. Though that was more towards the beginning of the day, before the crowds built up so I can see how that could become an inconvenience..

The main room is a little cafeteria-like but it is a bit more intimate(though a bit dark) if you can find a seat in the west wing.

It was a barely-edible, way-overpriced sandwich. In fact, DW couldn't even finish hers because of all the gristle in the ham.

Did they refund you when you talked with the manager about the issues with the meal?

Service in the restaurant is non-existent.

It's a quick service. Yes.

No one told us when we checked in that we had to get our own drinks.
We had to chase down our utensils and napkins from two different carts. No one told us about that, either.

That's too bad; they told us, though to be honest I didn't hear them because my hearing is poor. My friend heard them, though, thank goodness.

I wasn't even hungry anymore by the time I got my food.. I took a few bites and was finished and just wanted to get out of there.

For the future, this is my experience in moments like that. Just EAT. As you eat you'll start to feel better. Food-related stuff makes us so anxious, and it connects to the stomach in some weird way. But if we ignore what our stomach is telling us (that we're not hungry) we actually fuel our bodies and feed our souls, and by the end of the meal we are less anxious, calmer, and feel better. To give in to that feeling is to do what a child would do, IME (watching my son and watching my behavior when I get like that). To go along with the plan (fuel your body) is a more adult decision and leads to a better next couple hours. Took me a LONG time to figure this out. I have weird food problems that happen, and I dislike things every third time I have them, etc etc...so I've had a long time to work all this out. :)

I've loved the Potato Leek soup twice. DH, a person who has been to very fancy restaurants around the world and has had French Onion soup in many good places, said their FO soup (which is vegetarian, which means they use the long-cooked onions for flavor, not beef stock) is THE best he's ever had. I'm not a FO fan, so I didn't like it. But his opinion was the important one at the table. I'm the PL expert (I make it often and it's a great recipe) so my opinion on the PL was the better one. :)

I've had the salad with champagne dressing or something like that. At lunch I had the soup and the veggie quiche with side salad. All have been absolutely delicious IMO.

So when looking at people who want repeat visits, it's because we actually liked the food. Maybe we ordered different things. Maybe that day other people visited the salt shaker opened up over the soup. Maybe that day the service was off. etc. But it hasn't been *everyone's* experience, and that's why people want to go back.

That's OK, OP! There are plenty of restaurants people here love that I don't agree with. We like BOG, for the food and the atmosphere. Everyone is different. What bothers me is when people act like there is something wrong with me when I like something they don't. We even liked the grey stuff! (It's delicious)!

I've only eaten there once, lunch, and my family of five all enjoyed it. My kids all love B&tB (movie/stage both) and loved the decor; I could take it or leave it.

The braised pork that day was one of the better dishes I've had anywhere at WDW. Agree that the sandwiches, at least the ones we sampled, were so-so.

We'll go again.

Considering how difficult it can be to get in, I sincerely wish more folks felt like the OP here. ;)

I do have a question for the OP, what quick service at Magic Kingdom do you like? In my opinion BOG is the best option for lunch.

This is a good point, too. I do like that you have a nice sit-down experience, and when we went had no problems with waiting in line, waiting for a table or waiting for our order. That was an improvement over the CS options we tried in MK.

DW and I had lunch at BOG this past week.

Pro's:
The air conditioning was working and it was nice and cool inside.

Con's:
Everything else.

I don't see what the attraction is. It was a barely-edible, way-overpriced sandwich. In fact, DW couldn't even finish hers because of all the gristle in the ham.

I see nothing but a huge money-grab here.

I usually don't post anything negative about WDW, because we always find some good in everything, but not here.
We've been to WDW over 25 times; we are Passholders; and we've eaten at dozens of restaurants.

Never again at this one.
We prefer dinner.

Location, location, location.

It's our favorite sit-down inside Magic Kingdom.

The food is not overpriced, in part, it's not very good. I've said it before - it's banquet food….because you're in a banquet hall.

But all things considered, and given other food at Disney for similar cost, it's not bad either.

We found the cupcakes to be 'meh'.

Glass of wine never hurts; sometimes my kid even let's me have a sip.

The Beast is a bonus at dinner.

I never thought about it like that. That is a really good point. Thanks! I was actually glad that I didn't eat my whole lunch, as we had Hoop Dee Doo for dinner that night so I try not to eat much during the day before going there lol.

As others have posted it is a quick service restaurant for lunch. With that said we plan to eat lunch there twice on our upcoming trip. Now dinner is another thing for us, we do have ap dinner ADR but May not keep it, for a table service we weren't thrilled with it.

I do have a question for the OP, what quick service at Magic Kingdom do you like? In my opinion BOG is the best option for lunch.

I like it for a lunch option, and booked it again for our upcoming trip. My family has always had a nice lunch, although I woul do something about that ordering system. I got behind a couple who could nto figue it our yet refused multiple offers of help from some very patient CM's.

Dinner, OTOH, was mediocre in my opinion. I am as far from a foodie as you can get when someone ele is cooking for me, so when I am not thrilled with donne, we don't go back! LOL The only ting that would get me back in is that lovely glass of wine I enjoy with dinner.

I guess it's all a matter of perspective. If you go in comparing it to a sit down meal where the waiter takes your order and waits on you hand and foot, brings you everything you need, checks on you throughout the meal, then yes, you're going to be disappointed. But lunch is NOT a TS meal.

Instead, compare it to other QS options. You stand in line to order, then go stand in line at the hot counter to wait for your meal to be piled on a cafeteria tray. Paper cups, paper plates, plastic utensils--everything disposable. Then go try to find a table that's actually clean. Then you have to go pick up utensils, condiments, napkins, etc. Sort out the food for everyone, try to find somewhere to leave the tray. When you're done, pile all your garbage back on said tray and dump it in a trash can.

When you're comparing QS to QS, having to go get your own drink doesn't sound like a big deal!

Personally, our family has no desire to go for dinner. The menu doesn't appeal to us that much, but we've all enjoyed lunch there and my teenage boys even want to go back next time.

Not the OP, but we like Columbia Harbor House. in the Unofficial Guide, I think it gets pretty good reviews. Actually, better than BOG.

We didn't enjoy our food at lunch and wish we had sat in a different room on our trip last year. That being said we are really looking forward to our dinner adr there this year and hoping to score a breakfast adr pre park opening if they extend it to september. Want to have tried all 3 meals before we completely write off.

We liked both meals but did pass on lunch for our next trip to have less dining reservations. We have a dinner reservation. My favorite lunch is the braised pork. I didn't like the grey stuff or the French onion soup but I did enjoy the potato leek soup. Salmon and Steak are our favorites at Dinner. My favorite cupcake is the Lemon.

It is okay not to like a certain restaurant, we all have different tastes, likes, and opinions.

We love BOG! Compared to other QS this one has them beat. It is a huge bonus for a parent of 2 toddlers to not have to carry a tray of food while scanning for a table and trying to make sure the boys are climbing the curtains and/or joining some unsuspecting family's meal.

Sounds like you were expecting a sit down dining experience so I understand the disappointment about that. We prefer BOG as a qs option as the meal is delivered to the table, but it's still quick service. As to the quality, if there was a problem to the point that it was almost inedible, I would have brought it to the server's attention. I wouldn't pay for a meal that wasn't at least edible.

We think that for qs, it's a very nice option and while noisy, it's themed very nicely. If you compare it to sit down dining, of course it falls short, but that's not what it is.
