BOG dinner questions

DH and I have a BOG dinner reservation for our trip in January. I thought it would be fun to experience this, since we have done lunch with the whole family on a previous trip.

Is it possible to just order a soup and salad (and a glass of wine, of course :)) for dinner? I'm sure DH will order an entree, but I'm thinking the soup and salad will be plenty for me.

I have read many mixed reviews, but I don't see many that specifically state what food people are liking/not liking. I know everyone has their own tastes, but could you let me know what food you really loved or disliked (specifically the entrees) and why?

Also, I'm hoping that dinner won't take much more than an hour. Our reservation is 1/28 @ 4:55. We have fp for 7dmt from 6-7 that I don't want to miss. After that, BTMR fp. ...hm. Somehow seeing this in writing is making me wonder what I was thinking...following a meal with 2 roller coasters :)

Any other suggestions for the two of us would be appreciated! This is really a first for us!

Thanks!

Absolutely you may order soup & salad for your meal! At any dining establishment you may order whatever you would like. The potato & leek soup was amazing! My husband and I each had a cup of soup and shared the Layered Ratatouille. The ratatouille was good, not great and the reason why it was not great was because it wasn't really layered...it was a pile (okay, a mold) of quinoa with a few slices of vegetables on top. I was expecting a lot more vegetables so I was disappointed, however, the addition of quinoa was appreciated to boost the protein level of the meal. The dish did have great flavor. One in our party had the Braised Pork and said it was amazing -- just melted in your mouth and could have guessed it was beef and not pork. :) It looked very tasty!

Edited to add: We were a party of 4 and were in and out in about an hour. Since your FP+ window doesn't expire until 7pm, you'll be fine for time. Don't sweat it!

Thanks for the details! I'll have to keep the ratatouille in mind, since you said it tasted good and sounds 'light'. Funny it's called 'layered' :) I'll make a note about the pork for DH. Thanks for the comment about the time!

You will be able to just order soup and salad if you would like. However if you are in the dining plan I believe you will still be deducted a table service credit. If paying out of pocket it is no problem, some even just order dessert and wine!

I have always eaten the steak and my husband usually has the fish options and both wonderful.

You will absolutely make your fast pass as you have really until 7 to use it and 7dmt is only few mins from BOG so as long as you are finishing your dinner for 6.45pm it will work. Just make sure to arrive 15min before reservation time, check in and you should get seated on time.

No, someone on DDP never has to use a DDP credit at any establishment. Any DDP user can always opt to pay OOP.

We didn't care for the French Onion soup, strip steak, or the shrimp and scallops. There were several specialty items we tried that were also mediocre, but aren't part of the regular menu. Overall it wasn't a favorite due to the food being under seasoned, and I don't use much seasoning in the meals I cook or salt. The soup was not a traditional French Onion and I think may use a vegetable broth vs. a beef broth, so it was a disappointment. We spent 10 days there in Oct. and had some really amazing meals, so this just didn't live up to other locations we had been. Good luck and hopefully you have an amazing meal!

Agree with this regarding the French onion soup. I thought it had very little taste at all. Huge disappointment for me.
