14 day WDW vacation July 18-27 ASMo, July 27-30 AKL
The van is packed and ready to go, after very little sleep last night, and we are able to hit the road by 6:45. Only 45 minutes later than planned but no worries, we are on the road to the mouse! We plan to stop at Kingsland, GA for the night so with stops it should be around 8-9 pm. The drive is easy with only a little construction and we are on schedule. That is until we hit Savannah. Why is it that the last two hours are always the longest? We were all getting tired and ready to get out of the car and I debated stopping early. Should have went with my first instinct. North of Brunswick, GA we hit the mother of all storms. If there wasn't a car in front of me whose tail lights I could follow I don't know if I could have seen the road. Luck was on our side when we spotted a rest area soon after the storm started. We sat here for about 20 minutes watching cars pull in when the daylight bright lightning would hit. As fast as it started the storm was over and we sloshed back onto the road. I had hopped to make the hotel in time to watch the Amazing Race but would just have to watch the tape when we got home. Around 10:30pm we pulled into the Super 8 in Kingsland, GA, too tired to even gas up before bed.
RING! RING! Wake up call, miss the mouse saying up and at 'em, and we are on the road again. Now we really feel like we are on vacation. Only a couple of hours and we will be "where magic lives"! We stop for our OJ at the Florida welcome center and aparently not learning from last year I ask the travel desk the best way to get to the Fountain of Youth in St. Augustine. You woudl think that if you worked at the travel desk of a welcome center you would at least be welcoming. Well they weren't very happy to help basically telling me to get a St. Augustine brochure and follow the directions. DUH! Why didn't I think of that
With my St Augustine map in hand, the one I picked up before the surley tourism ckick pointed them out, we set off again. I just love the free OJ to start the day in Florida.
I am a bargain shopping fool so we always hit the Character outlet in St. Augustine when we drive but it had been years since I had actually visited St. Augustine. I just remembered lots of one way streets. After our fabulous buys we set out to discover the Fountain of Youth. After all I'm not getting any younger. We only suffered a mild detour when I pulled into the trolley parking lot thinking it was a city parking area. The bright red trolley should have given it away but at least the lady working at the gates was very helpful and explained how to get where we needed to go. Finally we are at the Fountain of Youth. Now you may wonder why a young beautiful woman such as myself would want to visit the source of eternal life. Is she vain? you are thinking or maybe she just wants to outlive the mouse and look as timeless as Minnie. Well you just might be right, but a woman never admits to these things. We visit under the guise that the eldest child leaarned about it in school and wanted to visit. Are you buying it?
I pony up $12 admission, cheaper than my moisturizer and should work just as well, and enter the attractions that failed and fired disney imagineers built. If they would have thrown in the bad planetary show and the giant light bright globe this would have been a more enjoyable experience. I already knew that the water would taste like I hadn't brushed my teeth in a week, but that's the price you pay for eternity. They really need to stick to the history and leave out the pseudo entertainment. It was interested to see but I don't think we will ever be back. Even the kids were making fun of a couple of the attractions and enjoyed the non guided parts more.
What followed was an argument between the kiddos about visiting the beach. They kept changing their minds and finally decided the allure of the mouse was too strong. As I look at my watch my heart sinks. It will be 3pm when we hit Orlando. I better prepare for gridlock. Turns out I was right and it took us almost an hour to get through Orlando but all that was forgotten when we saw those magical gates.
Check in at ASMo was easy and pleasant. I asked and received a room in Toy Story and DD was upset because we were already placed in Dalmations when I asked to be changed. I'm not sure I can deal with her hormones when mine are still fully functioning. This plays a part in the beginning of our trip. All I kept thinking is how much sympathy I have for Jennymouse. DD is going from very easygoing to crying when you look at her the wrong way.
Our room was ready, first floor, so we pulled the van around and unloaded ourselves. I wanted to freshen up before we went to one of the parks tonight and didn't want to have to wait on bell services.
The kids voted on MK, so we headed out. It was early evening by this time so we headed over to Space Mountain for a fast pass. We were able to ride Buzz, Space Mountain, TTA, DD rode Astro Orbiter, and have dinner at Cosmic Ray's. As it neared Spectro time the clouds were gathering and the lightning was flashing so we decided to head out of the park and back to the hotel for a good nights sleep. Turns out it was a good call because as we reached the buses the heavens opened and the wind gusted. It was a pretty neat site and mant people were taking video of the lightning behind the castle. It looked more like it had been invaded for halloween than a July thunderstorm.
Funniest memory today - seeing super mullet boy. As we were leaving Cosmic Ray's I saw a child of about 6 with the most beautiful golden hair down to their rear. That is until they turned around and it was a boy with a mullet! I was so shocked I couldn't even get my camera out to document that american tragedy.
Tomorrow - Two parks and evesdropping on unsuspecting guests.
