Thanks for the link. I enjoyed the article too.
Sadly it only reinforces what is WRONG with Disney today. Franchise, franchise, franchise. Brand, brand, brand.
Forget about the ideals that brought the Company to its heights. Forget the "quality covenent" when you can clone a band, a tv show or a movie and give the ever so discerning teenage girls what they want. Forget "exceed the guests expectations" when all you have to do sell them on the brand, it's the brand, it's ESPN, it's Pooh, it's ABC, it's DISNEY.
It's a true testimonial to the Company that Walt and Roy started that that the 'magic' they created has lasted so long despite the fact that totally magic less people have been running the company since, well, at least since Frank Wells died.
Don't get me wrong. The Jonas Brothers, Hannah Montana, the Stitch phenomenon, these things are all good for 'the Company', especially the bottom line. But when this becomes the epitome of the creativity shown by the Company then the end of times (for Disney) is neigh. When Disney is more concerned with being just another successful company then they are no longer Disney, IMO.
Eisner put them on life support. Iger is going to pull the plug. Thanks pal.
