Bob Iger quietly brings big changes to Disney

Just wanted to say thanks for the link - interesting reading.

Thanks for the link. I enjoyed the article too.:thumbsup2

Sadly it only reinforces what is WRONG with Disney today. Franchise, franchise, franchise. Brand, brand, brand.:sad1:

Forget about the ideals that brought the Company to its heights. Forget the "quality covenent" when you can clone a band, a tv show or a movie and give the ever so discerning teenage girls what they want. Forget "exceed the guests expectations" when all you have to do sell them on the brand, it's the brand, it's ESPN, it's Pooh, it's ABC, it's DISNEY.:faint:

It's a true testimonial to the Company that Walt and Roy started that that the 'magic' they created has lasted so long despite the fact that totally magic less people have been running the company since, well, at least since Frank Wells died.

Don't get me wrong. The Jonas Brothers, Hannah Montana, the Stitch phenomenon, these things are all good for 'the Company', especially the bottom line. But when this becomes the epitome of the creativity shown by the Company then the end of times (for Disney) is neigh. When Disney is more concerned with being just another successful company then they are no longer Disney, IMO. :faint:

Eisner put them on life support. Iger is going to pull the plug. Thanks pal.

AMEN!!

Frankly, this just sort of reinforces what's wrong with Disney across the board. They're focusing their attentions in all the wrong areas. It even stretches to the way they approach ABC Daytime. Cancelling Supersoap at the parks in order to take the cast of their soaps on the road... now at first, this sounds like a great idea, because not everyone can go to the big event in Florida every year. But when you look closer, their expressed goal is that by going into towns across the country, they will "create interest in the soaps and lure new viewers."

No, folks. Good storytelling -- something that hasn't been done on ABC's GH or AMC for years -- is what will bring in new viewers. Simply telling Cameron Mathison to go take off his shirt in a mall isn't going to do it.

Expedition Everest was a step in the right direction, parks wise, but they need more of that kind of thinking and less of the type that results in yet another slow-riding attraction like Alladin's Magic Carpets.

Ugh. I could go on and on.

But thanks so much for the link! Truly appreciated it!
