Got my ticket!!! Can't wait..he's amazing! From Disney Parks Blog:
“If it moves on wheels at Disneyland, I probably designed it,” said Bob Gurr, retired Imagineer and Disney Legend. In his Disney career of nearly 40 years, he helped develop more than 100 designs for vehicles ranging from turn-of-the-century Main Street vehicles, sleek bobsleds for the Matterhorn, the cars of Autopia, the futuristicMonorail and more.

Since his youth, Bob was fascinated with tools, mechanical devices and cars. His association with Disney began in 1954, when he was asked to consult on the design of Autopia ride vehicles. Walt Disney was so impressed with Bob’s knowledge and skill that he invited him to join WED Enterprises, today known as Walt Disney Imagineering. Bob went on to design one-of-a-kind vehicles, versions of which are now in use at every Disney theme park resort property around the world. He also helped design the mechanical workings of Disney’s first advanced Audio-Animatronics human figure, Abraham Lincoln, featured in Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln.

Following his retirement in 1981, Bob continued to consult on Disney projects, including the giant Ursula creature featured at Tokyo DisneySea. In 1999, he was honored with the Themed Entertainment Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award. Bob was named a Disney Legend in 2004.

I'm not going to be home, otherwise, I'd jump at this. Thanks for sharing this on the boards. :flower:

Oh man, DS7 and I will be down there that weekend too. Would love to go, but I don't think he could make it through the whole evening :(
Have fun everyone who IS going!

I would love to, but it's looking now like we'll be doing LEGOLAND that day so not back in Anaheim until Sunday. Boo.

I recently watched this video of Bob being interviewed about the recent Story of Disneyland auction at the Van Eaton Gallery. Listening to him talk about Walt really had me choked up. Bob seems like such a great guy!

Have fun ladies!

What a fun party!!! I'm so glad lcasa, disneyluvr2 and I were able to attend. I laughed through most of the evening! The jokes, stories, videos, and pictures were hilarious, though there were some serious sentimental moments as well. One of the highlights of the evening was a story from Michael Broggie, whose dad was head of the machine shop at Disney Studios and the first imagineer. 12-year-old Michael was allowed to use an Autopia car at the studios. He showed a video of himself test driving the prototype and told how he figured out how to disengage the speed lockdown so it could go 30 mph instead of 8. He used his wheels to try and get Mouseketeers to ride with him, with the goal of enticing Annette into accepting a ride. He was shut down by his dad so it remains a mystery as to whether or not she would ever have done it.
