Holy cow! Your DH got sick from a flying squirrel at (I searched) OKW? I hope he's OK now!
Back to the OP, I like to give new restaurants at WDW a little growing room before I try them. I'm not surprised to hear such bad reviews.
Yes Robinb. Sadly that is true. It is a bit simple to say we had a really rough trip! Somehow a flying squirrel was in our 2 bedroom villa at OKW and because they are nocturnal, we did not have an encounter with it until the last night. In fact it was the night we ate at the Boathouse. Can you say really bad day!
We learned a few things starting with what a flying squirrel looks like up close and personal. I had only seen "real" squirrels and had no idea that the thing was. With the large round eyes, it reminded me of a lemur and I did not ID it as a flying squirrel until hours later. We also learned that calling the "Front Desk" on the villa phone does not get you anyone even in the resort. It goes to a call center in who knows where! We learned that flying squirrels do not carry rabies, our first fear. They only carry typhus, Leptospirosis and salmonella. Oh yeah that is better ...... NOT!
To make a long story short, it took I think 6 phone calls including one to the "cross button" on the phone that turned out to be Reedy Creek 911 and hours to get help, the Disney Pest Control guy never did catch the critter (we herded it out onto the patio where it flew to the ground), Out of the 9 adults and 1 infant in our villa that night Hubby was the only one scratched as the critter ran over him to get into another room where it ran across the body of our 5 year old granddaughter and over the heads of our DD and her friend.
Because the critter was peeing and pooping every where he went, it had pee and feces on his feet which then entered DH's blood stream from the scratch made on his arm. DH ended up with Leptospirosis and had to go to an Urgent care to get antibiotics. I have never ever seen sick like he was. It was frightening. No one else got sick at all! Not even the baby who had been crawling and toddling on the floors! Because the critters carry body lice and fleas which also carry disease, we had to wash every item of clothing with us, fumigate our bags, suit cases, stroller, stuffed animals and anything that could have fleas or lice! What a pain in the butt after a vacation. It was exhausting to do this for the 4 families!
Disney is in the process of paying our medical bills and then they say they will make us happy. Actually this is the first time in over 40 years that we do not have another trip planned as soon as one ends. We are DVC owners also. Right now no one wants to return soon to my normally Happy Place.
