Boathouse or Homecomin' without ADRs?

After 2 COVID cancelled trips in 2020, we're going to go from 12/27 to 1/4. Our son has some health conditions, so he's high-risk, so we'd like to eat outside mostly. But, we'd really like to try a couple of good table service meals. Has anyone had experience with walking up for Boathouse or Homecomin'?

Thanks!

Check open table too, there are some DS restaurants

boathouse is one of the restaurants folks have reported feeling crowded. The other is raglan road. I have no first hand experience, sharing what I’ve seen here

We have easily walked up to both.

Boathouse, just a couple of weeks ago, party of 6 was seated immediately at 6pm. There were ZERO open table reservations available (I checked often right up until we arrived at DS) yet there was plenty of tables open for walk-ups. BTW I am incredibly anxious about seating and we were very far from other tables and felt extremely comfortable.

Homecoming always saves tables for walk-ups, too, and the wait has been minimal here recently (esp for patio). They are not on Open Table.

That said - in that dining glitch a week or so ago, those restaurants did not cancel on all the additional tables so I wouldn't be surprised if some of the walk-up spots they typically have will be lessened due to absorbing so many extra reservations for the next couple of months.

The inside of boathouse is way too crowded but go to the back outside and across the walkway bridge to the floating dock and everything on the dock is first come first serve. About 20-30 tables total.

We have walked up to Homecomin' for outside seating twice and waited only a few minutes. However, we were eating late dinners. If you're able to dine later in the evening, seating seems to be easier.

both have a decent sized bar area. homecommin is less crowded in that regard to get a spot.

We were there two weeks ago and found Disney Springs to be very busy. All the TS restaurants we checked for walk up availability, including Homecomin', had decent wait lists. I believe Homecomin' was quoting an hour. We did get bar seating at the Boathouse as walk-ups, so I'm not sure how long the wait was. As a side note, we managed to book last minute Open Table reservations at City Works and they had nearly every timeslot available. They have a fairly large outdoor seating area, so I would consider this as a back-up plan if Homecomin' and Boathouse don't work out.

Curious about the apparent easy ability to walk up for a few places in Disney Springs. We'll be at WDW from 11/28 - 12/5 and with several open evenings for dinner (but no ADRs for those nights) it would be curious how many places could accept walk ups. Not sure we would do so (logistics for our larger party of 10 complicate things) but interesting options none the less. Perhaps the DS locations have more chances to have walk-up availability simply due to so many dining options in a relatively concentrated area, compared to say in-park table service restaurants. Hmmm......

I have tried “walk up” at Chef Art Smiths Homecomin’ recently on Sunday Morn standing at the front ready for Open to ask for walk-in and got seated outdoor table. And last year Thanksgiving a booth (we squeezed 4 thin adults&2children) at Open w/out any reservations .
I figure most people are running late . The Chef was there early Thanksgiving morn greeting his regulars , etc, but I was impressed!
I wonder how many celebrity chefs actually do that!
Good luck
