Since we are doing several character meals this trip, it appears that now the meal plan will be better for us than TIW.

We have a dinner planed at the Boathouse. How do they handle the TS/CS meal plan? I see sides are listed as sides and are separately priced. What is included in the meal plan?

Based on past reviews I've read the dining plan is a TS meal (might even cost 2 credits but can't recall) and gets you an entrée. If that entrée is a steak that is listed separately then you get the steak only and any sides you get you have to pay out of pocket. Doesn't seem to be a very good use of a TS (or 2?) credit to me. I'm sure someone who actually tried will eventually weigh in.

Yikes, that does not sound good at all. I have been told it is a signature dining so it is 2 TS credits but I just can not imagine that you get zero sides for that cost of credits. I hope some who has been there will chime in soon!

It's a 2 TS credit location.
Everything on the menu applies except for "for two" and "for four" titled items, in which Disney Food Blog said you can pull credits together for that entree. As in, two diners can use their entree option to get the one 'for two' item.
Just like any other signature, anything under 'side dish' is an additional cost, same as with any upscale/high-end steakhouse.

On the dining plan, you get a non-alcoholic beverage, entree and dessert.
On the deluxe or higher dining plans, you get a the same as above, but also an appetizer.

You get whatever side is listed with the entree. If the entree doesn't include a side, then you'd pay extra for one. This is typical of a high-end steakhouse.

Regarding what a PP said about YSH , everytime we have eaten there the steaks did include a potato or something similar . However the veggies & mac and cheese side dishes were separate and not part of the DDP.
Most other high end Steakhouse are like the Boathouse , only the entree everything else is extra.

To clarify though, "most high end steakhouses" are not what Disney offers. Almost all of the entrees at any signature at Disney include a side. The ONLY signature I know of that doesn't include at least one side with an entree is Boathouse. Every other signature at Disney includes a side with every single entree. So what non-Disney restaurants do is irrelevant.

We ate at Yachtsman a few years ago and every steak included a side. If that has changed that would be news to me (though I haven't been in a few years so may be the case), but the menu I see shows a side with every steak.

And on edit, you can get a steak, lobster tail, side and dessert at Narcoosee's for the same credit you'd spend at Boathouse.

We had ADR's for Narcoossee's but SIL and DD decided they wanted to join DH and I on our adult date night and we decided to try Boathouse instead.

I think I am going to call them and verify that you do not get sides with a dining plan meal. Every signature that we have tried in the past at Disney has included at least one side as part of the meal.

It's not a Boathouse question. It's a dining plan question. On the dining plan, you get an entree. No "extras" are included. If the entree doesn't come with a side, then that's what you get.

We used the deluxe dining plan there in June. You do not get a side unless it is listed on the menu (some entrees have sides listed) Three of us ordered steaks and a side of asparagus and fries. We didn't finish all the asparagus and only ate half the fries. The sides are huge and meant to be shared.

Thanks for the clarification. I guess we will have to share some sides.

Looking at menus on AllEars, Yachtsman steaks come with a potato side.
For example Yachtsman Fillet is $49 for 8-oz Black Angus Filet Mignon - Mashed Potatoes, and Cabernet Wine Sauce
At Boathouse you pay $39 for Filet Mignon - 8 ounce and All steaks certified USDA Gibsons Blue Star Heritage Angus. Served with choice of sauce: Bearnaise, Peppercorn, Red Wine, BOATHOUSE steak sauce. You then pay $9 for a side of fries to share or $7 for a baked potato. This means the steak and potato at Boathouse is cheaper than Yachtsman if paying cash.
However if paying with credits, it is a poor value as you only get the steak for 2 TS credits and you still need to pay $7 for potato.

But if you go for something that isn't steak at Boathouse most entrees include a side of some type.

It seems that Disney restaurants serve all entrees with a side, which makes it more friendly to the dining plan credit system. Boathouse serves some entrees without a side which means you can pick what you want easier.

Yep, good point, and not trying to bash anyone or Boathouse. In fact, if I were choosing between the two and paying out of pocket I would go Boathouse. Even with the dining plan I might go Boathouse because it gets good reviews from what I've seen. But on the dining plan my understanding is you don't get sides with all entrees (mainly steaks it appears). Another point is that I believe some of the sides at Boathouse, like the asparagus, are family style, meaning serve more than 1 person.

Ah, touche you're correct.
I drew a hard blank on that one, entirely wrong lol. I have no idea why I was picturing Yachtsman and Narcoossee's without sides on the entree. I think recalling ordering additional sides (truffle mac and yachtsman and mashed at narcoossee's) in addition to recent steakhouses not serving sides, had me picturing solo entree's. I even have a picture on the meal pics section with the strip and twiced baked :headache::badpc:
