years ago when i stayed at the campgrounds, there was a boat that ran from the marina to the contemporary and then over to the polynesian. does it still exsist? also is there any direct transportation to the wilderness lodge? we will be going on our first disney camping adventure the first week of juneand are checking out our swimming pool and eating options.

thanks

There's only two launches now. One that runs direct to the Magic Kingdom and another that runs a circle route (from 7:45 AM - 10 PM) between Wilderness Lodge, the Contemporary and Fort Wilderness.

To go to the POLY, take the boat to the MK, walk over to the launch of the extreme left that goes to the GF and the POLY. Total time is about a half hour to get to the POLY.

If the MK launch isn't operating because the MK is closed, take the Contemp/WL/FW launch to the Contemp and hop the resort monorail to the Poly.

You mentioned looking at your pool and restaurant options. Just wanted to make sure that you are aware that pool-hopping is not permitted between resorts. If you are staying at FWC, your only legitimate pool options are the FW Cabins pool and the Meadows Trading Post pool, both at Fort Wilderness. River Country is right next door (walk from the marina & petting farm) for a fee - discounted for FWC guests, if requested.

If you do decide to pool-hop to other resort's pools, they may check for resort ID's and ask you to leave. You would also have to show your resort ID to get towels at the deluxe resorts. Bringing your own towels may be conspicuous, encouraging a resort ID check as well. Sorry if this is disappointing.

The restaurant options in the area are great though. Remember that the Boone and Crockett bus routes include a stop at Wilderness Lodge too. Enjoy! :)

I wanted to know when and why this launch was discontinued, since the launch between the CR-WL-Ft Wilderness still runs and is very popular. Did it have anything to do with the GF opening?

It's obviously been a long time since you have been to FW. River Country has been closed since I believe 2001. They also revamped the bus system several years ago. The buses are no longer called Boone and Crockett. They have yellow, purple and orange which only run internally to whichever loop you are staying in. Then there are buses that pickup at the two depots for going to the parks/DTD. I believe the one going to MGM stops at the Lodge but I'm not sure.

The last time we went the buses were so slow that we decided to drive to all the parks.

The reason there are different launches now is because there are five resorts that they service and they had to split them up somehow. It makes sense that Poly and GF would have their own launch since they are on the other lake. This way FW, WL and CR have their own launch.

River country is closed and has been for a while now...which is one of the reasons that some folks are looking to use the pools at the other resorts. Seems to me that Disney needs to address this, as it has become quite a problem over at the WL where they now check resort id while using the pool. River Country was a good option for those at the camp ground..especially because as you say it was offered at a discount for campground guests.

It would be nice if you could pool hop--but think about this...

Those who stayed at the resorts with the nicer pool areas--paid alot more to stay at those resorts and utilize the priviledges at those resorts.

I miss the pool hopping--last time we did it--it was back when WL first opened. But for now, I will abide by the rules and enjoy the peace and quiet of the FWC swimming pool.

Instead of asking for pool hopping--start lobbying for a pool upgrade--then while that is happening, maybe they will let us pool hop to WL. I know they are upgrading one of the pools at a DVC. Don't see any reason why they can't do the same at FW.
