I had never seen any mention of a boat from Contemporary to MK until I read the resort reviews on EasyWDW (excerpt below). Is there really boat service to MK? I would really like to get over to MK by boat on our first day (afternoon arrival) and maybe surprise the kids -- Wanna go for a boat ride? Hey! Look where it's taking us! -- I was expecting to have to take the monorail to the TTC and then catch the ferry to MK there. Can anyone tell me whether we actually have a direct option?

"Transportation: The Contemporary is the closest resort to the Magic Kingdom and is on the Disney resort monorail line which easily connects it to the Ticket and Transportation Center, Polynesian, Grand Floridian, and Magic Kingdom. There is also a direct walkway to the Magic Kingdom as well as boat service to the Wilderness Lodge, Fort Wilderness, and Magic Kingdom."

The most direct easiest route is to do the less than 10 minute walk along the walkway. :goodvibes

I do not believe there is a boat from CR to MK. They are probably referencing that you can boat to WL and take MK boat from there? :confused3

There is no boat from CR to MK. Options are walking (love that!) and taking the monorail.

You could take the monorail to either the Poly or GF and boat over to MK from there. Boats from WL & FW will take you to MK as well.

Have a great trip!

Thank you both! We do plan to walk between MK and CR most days. May try the boat from Poly on that first afternoon/evening.

:offtopic: Hello fellow Mid-Westerner!! We live right across the river from you!! Hope you have a WONDERFUL trip with your family!!

. . .And now back to your regularly scheduled thread . . .:goodvibes

Are you staying at the Contemporary? Because if you are looking for a surprize you better have clueless kids.

You will have to drive thru a big WDW Welcome sign with Mickey and the gang with multiple signs along the way and distract them from the huge theme park with a big castle in the middle of it just a few hundred yards away. :thumbsup2

There use to be a boat that went from CR to the MK but they have cut service back as much as they could so it is now gone. If you want to do a "fun thing"... take the boat to wilderness lodge or fort wilderness. Look around a little then take the boat from there to the MK. Then walk back to the CR or monorail it... We love to sit on the porch at Pioneer hall and just watch all of the golf carts play "how fast can i go around this corner without hitting anything".... :duck:

It's been years since we stayed at Wilderness Lodge, but when we did stay there, there was a little launch that ran a Fort Wilderness to Wilderness Lodge to Contemporary to Magic Kingdom. We took it all the time that trip. When did it stop? We are staying at Bay Lake Towers in January and I was counting on it for transportation to Fort Wilderness.

I think there are two boats, I know at least at FW there are two boats.

I think one is FW, WL, MK and one FW, WL, CR.

The one that stopped was from CR to the MK. You can still get on a launch to the WL and FW from the CR and from WL/FW to the MK. I changed the wording of my post it was a little confusing. :) I am not sure when the CR-MK boat stopped, maybe three years ago... It is actually an issue...you can only fit a wheel chair on the large boats and since none stop at the CR it makes it impossible to get to the WL or FW without taking the bus and that is such a chore it just isn't worth it.

I agree. Really hard to surprise kids with MK when large parts of it are about a par 4 from the contemporary.

I agree with a previous poster...take the monorail to the Poly, have a Dole Whip, then take the boat across to MK. Fun!

Lol.

But the OP meant to surprise the kids with the boat ride, not with MK.
