Boat Building Bash

My kids are interested in doing the boat building bash on our next Transatlantic, however, we don't know the rules. Can you bring items from home? What are the requirements? If anyone has any info we'd really appreciate it. Both kids got sunburned last year watching it because they couldn't take their eyes off all the excitement. Hopefully next year they'll participate too.
