DH and I will be visiting Disney World next week - we have been several times (with kids this time without!!) and are looking for something different. We have never ventured over to Boardwalk in the evening. Opinions from people who have visited Boardwalk - how does it compare to DTD and Pleasure Island?

Do you suggest walking over or taking the boat ride?

Thanks for your help!!

Boardwalk has some nice restaurants and a couple clubs (a dueling pianos place and a dance club) and is a fun place to visit, but it does not have all the shopping and entertainment options that DTD or Pleasure Island have.

As for walking or taking the boat, it depends on where you are coming from. It is a no brainer to walk from Epcot IG to Boardwalk, as it is only a 5 minute walk. From DHS, the walk is a little longer (about 15 minutes), but the walk is still likely to be faster than the boat.

Hopefully this information will help you.

Shopping: There is limited shopping with stores mainly for the Boardwalk Inn and Villas.

Restaurants: There are a few restaurants like Flying Fish and a brewery that I cannot remember the name. The other hotels also has restaurants. There is a night club the boardwalk called Jellyroll. Almost forgot ESPN club.

Activities: There are 4-wheel bike that you can rent and at times of the year there are side shows with food cart selling taffy and corn dogs.

Not the size of DTD or PI. Easy walk from EPCOT but recomend a boat ride from Hollywood studios. Good location if you want to go out of EPCOT for dinner or lunch.

I really like the BW area. Make sure you go in time to see the fireworks from Illuminations. I like to get a treat at the BW Bakery and have a walk around. Then get a seat and watch the FW. Perfect low-key evening if you're staying near the BW area.

If you don't have kids with you, check out Jellyrolls!!
DH and I went there one night and absolutely loved it. It is a piano bar/dueling pianos and it will just keep you laughing all night. I think there is a cover charge, but we stayed for a few hours and had a blast! Well worth it in my opinion.

It is by no means relaxing, it's loud but a lot of fun! The night we were there, there was a particularily loud fellow, who as punishment was required to sing a sexy "I'm a little teapot" to his girlfriend. It was hilarious. :lmao:

Just to be clear, you can see portions of the Illuminations fireworks and hear some of the music, but you cannot see the entire show and you miss many of the elements of Illuminations (the globe, the fire and water effects, the pavillions lighting up, etc.).

My opinion is that the Boardwalk is not the same type of venue as DTD. The Boardwalk is more like it is made to service the Boardwalk resort guests, since the BWI does not have a food court or restaurant in it. The Boardwalk area is a much smaller scale that DTD.
