HI
We are planning our first trip next year to the Boardwalk Villas. I noticed the difference in points from Perferred and Standard rooms. I would love some feedback about this. Is a Perferred veiw worth the extra points, are the standards terrible?

My concern is when we stay in Disney we barely have enough time to enjoy the pool in our hotel, never mind apprietating veiws from the room. But I don't want to be in a terrible room for a week either.

If anyone has any tips at all for staying at the Boardwalk I would love to hear them.
Thanks

We have stayed at the Boardwalk 3 times in preferred and we will be trying a standard view this summer. First DVC stay was at BWV and we had a room that overlook Luna Park pool. It was nice.

Second time, when we checked in, I happend to just say don't suppose we have a BW view...and yup we did. I cried right there checking in. Then again when we went to the room. Our room was 3001 alllll the way at the end of the hallway just bove the DVC offices. It was amazing.

Third time, is when they started taking requests for BW views. This last time, we were in room 2001, and again, it was amazing.

While I am happy we will be saving on points this summer, I know I will so miss the BW view.

:D :D

We have ONLY stay at the BWV and we always ONLY get the standard view.... I love it end of the hall(though many disagree) but if your headed to MGM you just walk down the end of the hallway stairs and presto your alot closer to MGM and if your headed to the Pool you just head down the interior stairs that lead to community hall and walk the back way...and most important you head down the interior stairs walk a few feet and go out the ground level door directly across from the bus stop ...follow the sidewalk and your at the bus stop....

And if you get an upper floor that faces the driveway you can see some of illuminations from your balcony....

I love my standard view and I have to get a 2 bdrm so it is a smart use of my points in my opinion...

Go for it...

I haven't yet gotten a "terrible" view - we've stayed in both preferred and standard. There are two types of preferred - Boardwalk View and Pool/Water View. Standards are mostly facing the driveway, some facing the parking lot. The grounds are so pretty, anything right there at your window is not bad at all to look at - the parking lot or driveway are not close enough to be bothersome or "ugly" IMHO anyway. We were on the 3rd floor with a driveway view last time, and we were enjoying sitting on the balcony watching the coming and going of fellow vacationers. It was quiet and relaxing, just what we like while sitting on a balcony. We've also had 4th and 5th floor BW views, and loved the bustling of the BW. Both seem to work out just fine! Best part.....you're at the BW! Have a great vacation!

If I had a choice between standard and preferred pool/garden, I'd take standard. The standards are nice, the parking lot is fairly far away with nice landscaping in between. To me, only the boardwalk view is worth the extra points. That's why I booked standard for 4 years until the boardwalk view became guaranteed, I didn't want to pay the extra points and get a pool view.

I've never been able to get a standard villa for any of our trips!!! I always have to take a preferred view. I would be very happy with a standard view room and save some points.

How is a Boardwalk View guaranteed?

Do you have to ask for it? I just booked there for our upcoming trip and only was told I booked "preferred"?

TIA

Compared to the rest of the resort, there are not that many rooms with boardwalk view. Remember, all the Grand Villas are boardwalk view, so what you see from the outside may be big, there aren't that many 2-B/R units, or 1-B/R-Studios.

Yes you can ask, but I've also had the CM's ask me if I wanted BW view. I'll bet when you called, all the BW views were already gone so they didn't say anything.

As to the OP, I'll use preferred for the BW view, but if not available then I get Standard, and only get just regular preferred if that's the last choice.

At high season times (like NYE, we go standard because of the huge difference in points, and when you're staying in the park until 1:00 a.m., who cares about the view out of your room. :earboy2:

We are new BWV members. We booked BW view for our first trip, just because it's our first trip! I can see us getting standard view though. We never spent very much time on our balconies at other resorts. Our kids are little so we stay in the room until they are asleep. By then we are usually alseep too!

For our first trip home, in 2000, we had a wonderful preferred view. But since then it's been standard view all the way. We've never had any complaints, so I guess for us, the view is nice but saving point is more important.

Thanks! Now I will know for next time!

As a matter of fact, I even said to CM at MS that I really did not care for what view 'cause I'm there to have fun and not look at the view!LOL

They will guarantee a boardwalk view when you reserve, if available. I always call day by day at 11 months to make sure I get it. They changed it over a year ago, you book either preferred boardwalk view or preferred pool/garden view, same points.

I had a beatiful view out of my Standard View one bedroom last spring. It overlooked the canal and water spray feature. It was about mid-way down the hall. We were high enough to see the high Fireworks from Illuminations. The stairs to Community hall was just a couple of doors down.

I also had a Boardwalk View studio last November. It was great and I will only do Boardwalk view once more this spring with I bring friends for the 1st time.

Standard view for me after that because the view really isn't bad for the Standard rooms!

We've stayed at each view and like them all equally. It was nice to try them.

The rooms are identical regardless of the view. For us, I'd prefer to get standard to save the points. Room locations and views are not a factor in our level of happiness while at home.
