Boardwalk to Universal?

I need some advice from a veteran guest at Disney who uses a car to visit other sites.

I'll be staying at the Boardwalk Inn in January, and would like to spend one day at Universal Studios Islands of Adventure. I'll also have my own car. Can you give me directions for driving from the hotel to IOA?

I'm sure I could go out to I-4, then go NE toward Orlando, and follow the signs. Can someone give me precise directions with estimated distances and times?

Also, I saw a post that mentioned a "back road" route. I'll be leaving the Boardwalk around 8 am on a weekday, so I assume I-4 will be a total zoo. If anyone knows the non-traffic route, I'd really appreciate it.

Don't know the back way. Know that you go to I-4, go east on it about 10 miles and you are there with big signs telling you where to exit and go. We have made the trip at 8 to 9 in the morning several times during the week from BW. No traffic problem. Takes about 25 minutes total.

I was looking for a back route thinking the trip might take 1 hour on I-4. 25 minutes or so sounds pretty good to me.

I cant recall who it was, Someone posted the back way about 6-7 months ago. It does exist and was easy to find, you just need to get your hands on a local map. Hopefully whoever it was that posted it will stumble across this post.
