Boardwalk standard room questions

We're looking to rent DVC points - a standard view room-studio at BW this August. I've always wanted to stay at BW and it will be for my 30th b-day!

1. Can you tell me where these room sare located at the resort? Will we have to do a lot of walking?

2. What is the policy for cancelling/issues should we run into hurricane issues?

Your chances that there will be a standard view available for August are pretty slim. They generally are fairly booked before the seven month window opens for non-BWV owners and book fairly quickly after that. In fact, your availability for BWV preferred view may be limited as you are only four months out.

They face the entrance to the building. There isn't much of a walk - although the halls at BWV can be long whatever your view from whatever part of the building you are in.

Different owners will have different cancellation policies, but generally there are no short term refunds available. If an owner cancels short term, his points become severely devalued (they go into "holding" and can only be used for reservations less than 60 days out, when availability can be slim and travel can be difficult to arrange).

We did manage to book BWV standard view at the seven month window this year for August, and recently were able to add a few nights, so sometimes availability might be there. But I agree, you should not count on this.

There is a fair amount of walking at the BW due to the long corridors, and also the fact that you can walk to Epcot and even MGM. There are boats available, though. We often use the steps instead of the elevator in order to exit the building closer to the bus stop.

We are currently waitlisted for BWV standard view (Or preferred view) for Aug 20-Aug25th this year. Haven't heard a thing and we booked EXACTLY 7 months out. Hoping we get one or the other!!!

Where would I have a better chance of getting a DVC studio rental then???

My best guess would be SSR since they have unsold inventory. We were able to book SSR for June in April, a studio for 4 nights. You need to have the owner check on inventory. I would have no idea what else might be available.

SSR and OKW are larger resorts, so usually have availability later than the smaller resorts (smallest resort is VWL, followed by BCV, then BWV - but BWV has strange availaiblity issues due to the different view types). If you decide to rent, I would make a list of your preferences - i.e. we'd like BWV Standard (you could get lucky), then BW Prefered, then BCV, then SSR, OKW as a last resort, but have no interest in staying at VWL. (This is just an example, these are all lovely resorts). This will let the owner you are working with be able to secure you the reservation they can without a lot of back and forth phone calls.

At this late date, I would think your best tactic is anything available for your dates.
