Boardwalk Refresh

I think it all goes back to location ,location, location, parenting skills, lack of respect for what you invest in, and the "newer DVCers" buying at a location they do not plan on using very much. I've seen the lack of parenting skills in the parks, on the cruise line, and in the grocery store--lets have Bobby and Sally handle/give everything they get their hands on and run a muck all over the place. Absolutely NO boundries given to the child-they tell the parents what they will do or have! Also housekeeping is coming--so lets just trash the room -hence longer to clean. I know Dan and I are actually more concious of keeping our resort room/cruise cabin more tidey while on vacation. Disney's probably operating on a fewer employees /same ammount of work to do-all coming down to the bottom line profitability to the company. I know in the grocery business customers have no concept of why items are not out and tasks might not be done right away like they used to be in the "old days".--but we try to be accommodating as much as possible.
I also think people are buying in now with the intention of using the "prime" DVC properties location for peak times to visit. I am wondering if its all comming down to too many members/resorts taxing the system?

They are "homes away from homes" folks. They will be a bit dinged up.

Our last OKW 2 bedroom had a few issues, but in no way did I think "I should sell."

I just called Housekeeping and Maintenance and had the things fixed. If Mousekeeping missed a spot, I tried to clean it up myself.

Geez.

Scott, I respectfully disagree about it coming down to parenting skills, lack of respect for what you invest in, and the "newer DVCers". I think any hotel will receive it's dings and dents over a 10 year period, and from what I've seen, DVC families are A LOT more respectful of Disney and other visitors than the average hotel go-er.

I agree with it being location, BWV has a high turn over rate (BLT will be even higher I imagine)

The issues the OP experienced sound like shoddy upkeep on housekeeping & maintenance's part. A stain in a rug demands immediate cleaning. I don't care if the next occupant is in the lobby waiting to check-in. It needs attention asap. A large stain that cannot be removed means that unit should come out of rotation and have the carpeting replaced. They have a number of units allocated for just a case so hopefully no-one will go without a room.

I expect my room to be clean. If Mousekeeping is leaving smudges on the mirror, dirty dishes and fuzzballs in the corners (all which are easily cleaned) I will clean them up myself, but I will make darn sure the housekeeping manager and DVC are aware of the issues so they can keep an eye on the situation.

I do expect some dings and stuff but IMHO BWV's due for a major 'refreshing'. Our local paper recently had a story about hotels and how often then redo the rooms, most were in the 4 to 6 year time frame, nobody was 10 years. AKL has been open less then 10 years and their rooms (not the villas but the hotel side of the house) was getting then when we were there in October. Yes, we've had some replacements done, like the sofa sleepers, but it would be nice to get new flat top stoves so you don't have the burners at a 20 degree angle or new fridges with ice makers and maybe with energy star rating to help cut down on the utility bills.

As for problems with the units I do wish that everyone would call in every problem they have when they their. That helps keep the units in top working order and does a favor to the next guest so they don't need to call to get it fixed. It doesn't take that long to call maint and tell them about the light buld that's out or the TV remote that needs new batteries.

We have had only 1 major issue with our room--on the last stay- given a 1 bedroom at BW that the pipe had burst on the floor above us entering ther room with holes and workers debris left in the room --I think it was a mistake on BW"s part thinking the room "was a go" for the green light. We've been members going on 11 yrs with a cosiderable ammount of points 625. Stayed at BW numerous times,OKW,AKV, and SSR and never had any major housekeeping issues. We have called maintenance a few tomes to fix a lightbulb, the folding laundry door, and etc.--Sooo we do call maintenance/housekeeping with the upkeep were not "new" to the situation. I do realize there will be "smudges" in my room /resort I'm not oblivious to that. I still have issues with the hallway carpet replacement over the "original" carpet in the hallway that BW replaced yrs. ago--poor choice on their part --it wears Horribly!!
But I do see a overwhelming lack of parenting wether in the resorts, the cruise ships, the parks and in the grocery store etc.---NOT every parent is like that though-thank God there are parents doing a good job!

Not everyone--just an observation.

I was talking to a person who worked in one of the DVC kiosks and he said there are so many people to junk up the rooms and have no respect that it's sad.

When we were at VB last Easter, our room still wasn't clean by 6pm and they gave us another. The carpet was still wet in this room as they had to clean the whole living room. Mousekeeping met us at the room and apologized for the hold up. So I can't imagine what was done in the room that we were supposed to get:sad2: .

Remember, this isn't a hotel - its a timeshare. Timeshares have much LONGER refresh schedules - for which my pocketbook is grateful.

That is true, but they do also sell the units as hotel rooms through central reservations and they ain't cheap.
