Boardwalk/PI in a wheelchair

Hi!

Okay, so circumstances have changed yet again for this trip - if we even get to go at all. DM is currently on 6-weeks complete bed rest, with at least 4-weeks after that to get anywhere near back to normal, if everything goes to plan. Only trouble is we go in 13 weeks!

We know she is definitely not going to be up for walking anywhere, and right now not even sure if she'll be able to go on any of the rides. We are currently in the process of getting her a wheelchair now so she can at least go outside for some fresh air and not have to look at the same four walls for the next 10-weeks!

Anyway, we had scheduled a night at Atlanta Dance Hall, Boardwalk and a night at 8-Tracks, PI. I highly doubt DM will be able to get out of the wheelchair and dance or anything, but would probably be quite happy to sit in the middle of the dance floor and bop in her chair.

Only thing is, we have never been to either place! This year was going to be our slightly more 'grown-up' holiday, with a few more adult-based activities, only since I don't know the layout of either or how crowded they get, I was wondering if anyone could tell me whether either/neither would be possible if DM is not getting out of the wheelchair???

Everything is accessible. PI might be a problem because it is on a hill and fairly steep. It sounds as if you are going in mid to late August. Crowds should not be too bad. For the nightlife I would suggest sticking to the early days in teh week (Mon, Tues, Wed). Also, if you will be partying at night make sure she gets a chance to rest during the day (mid-day nap).

you should be fine-we use a convaid cruiser chair for my 15 year old . We went to PI and saw a comedy show last time, portofino's for dinner, shopped, easy access, we stayed at boardwalk- very easy to glide along the sidewalk, easy access to espn club- bakery a little tight-easy boat access-
have a great time- bonus- you won't have to carry your bags, you can hook them on the chair

Thanks guys! I guess I forget how well Disney accommodates for ALL its guests - shame the UK can't be a little more like the US, but never mind. We are going first two weeks of September, so it should be reasonably quiet - just free dining crowds to deal with. And I'm pretty sure our nights out are at the beginning of a week, if not, I may just change them. Thanks again everyone.

It has been 10 years since I was there and I should have had an ECV but did not. Yes there are hills and changes in elevation. I would come into PI near the stage and there were steps but there was also an elevator there. There is also a walkway on the bottom of the map that avoids the hills. The island is small so it is not like doing San Francisco or Jerome, lol.

The adventurer's club had an elevator also. I would not worry about the hills or accessibilities. The CMs really made Pleasure Island a special place for me. I always went at the end of the day when I was tired and never had a problem with the hills. I loved Adventurer's Club the best and the hot dogs were excellent.

They did a rehab a few years ago and got rid of the elevator. After a long day at the park I wasn't ready to push up that hill so I loved that I could use the elevator and then go down. But they changed the entire stage end of PI. There is no longer a stage, no longer a New Years Eve show at midnight and there is a bridge/hill that leads up to the top of PI. The hill is longer and less steep then the Marketplace side hill but I still miss the elevator.

wow what a bummer. It was a traffic nightmare though because anyone disable and people with strollers had to use the elevator. I guess they decide it was easier to make a long hill instead of stairs and an elevator which cost them money to run.

Sigh those were the good old days my friend. hrmph.
