After coming back from what should have been a pretty magical 11 day vacation I unfortunately had some issues with blisters on one foot - and the other horribly swollen (yes I broke in my shoes before I went, but something else was going on I suppose) that kept our park days pretty short and more days than we had anticipated pool side. I know, first world problems.

Anyway, we decided to try and make up some of that lost time as well as take advantage of the Christmas holidays falling on the days they will and giving daughter her dream of spending her birthday in Disney as well - although it'll be 3 days late - so we're going back for a short 3 night stay and I've been dying to try the Boardwalk so here we are with a new countdown. :goodvibes

Now for the questions:

1. We've booked a standard view at the Boardwalk Inn. What is approximate distance from one of those rooms to DHS transportation and the pool? One day will be spent walking around and deciding if its a resort we want to stay at in 2018 or not so we'll be at the resort/pool for the day. Worth it to upgrade to a club level for the one day?

2. Just before we paid our deposit, the CM mentioned its undergoing construction but wouldn't impact our stay. Is that the Gondola construction going on - or if not, what is it?

3. How slim of a chance will there be a a soft opening of Toy Story Land or the slinky rollercoaster during our stay??

4. (This is theme park related but rather than create a whole new thread just for this: we'll also be attending the last MVMCP on 12/22. Does that party tend to sell out? Is it packed?)

Thanks so much!

#4: Yes, the last party will sell out and yes it will be packed.

We stayed at the Boardwalk 2 years ago and found it quite nice. A standard view room can be in any one of the Boardwalk wings, so it's hard to say how far you might be from the transportation or the pool. The transportation to most places will be the buses that pick you up in front of the resort, but the transportation to Disney Hollywood Studios is via boat and it is in back of the resort. It's pretty centrally located, so it shouldn't be a long walk from almost any room. The main pool is to one side (the west side), so that could be a longer walk if your room is located in the east wing. The good news is that there is a quiet pool by the east wing, which is where we went anyway. We were there in mid November and were able to do the after hours Christmas show with no difficulty, but of course you will be there during a much more crowded time. I hope that helps, and enjoy your stay!

It seems like the BoardWalk resort has been undergoing construction for years. When I was there in March, they were painting the exterior of the main entrance. When I was there in August, they were remodeling the room where Bell Services stores your luggage. Maybe you'll see or hear construction, maybe you won't.

Just back from eight days, only construction we saw was Bellhop/Luggage storage (screened off entire outside area and part of portico drive) and The Villas (working on exterior siding).

The gondola work was observable at the International Gateway, not at BWI.

As for Toy Story Land...it's not going to be open when you go. Sometimes there are soft openings of new things, but not 5+ months in advance of the announced opening date (of which there isn't even one for Toy Story Land yet).

I figured as much -- we still have plenty to do in HS and will inevitably be back in late 2018 :)

I loved staying at the Boardwalk. I was on the villas side, which is nearer the main pool, but it is a really nice hotel. I would ask for a room close to the lobby and elevator so you don't have a long walk. I believe there are only one set of elevators for each side (Inn/Villas) so if you are on the opposite end it could be a very long walk down the hallway.

DW and I have stayed at the BWI many, many times. We love the theming and the location. As Figment91 noted, the BWI is spread out so the distance from a room to the bus stop, boat dock, or the main pool can vary by more than two to one.

On one of trips we got a room all the way at the end of one of the wings with a view looking out towards the quiet pool. That was a bit of a walk to the lobby. But compared to al of the walking one does while at Disney it is not a big deal. If you haven't already, take a look at Google Maps satellite view and you'll see how spread the resort is out it is.

Worth it to upgrade to a club level for the one day?

I would say no. I think you'll be able to get a good sense of the resort with a walk around. There are plenty of pictures and reviews of the Club Rooms and the Lounge on the net if you are considering a longer Club level stay.
Wishing you a pixiedust: visit!
