Boardwalk in Aug v Yacht Club in May

This goes with another recent post of mine on the advantages and disadvantages of changing plans, but here I am looking for feedback specific to the resorts. We have a May trip booked at Yacht Club for 5 nights, but we could change gears and do 8 nights at Boardwalk in early/mid August for less per night ($336 v close to $400). A few other resorts have availability in Aug for our dates, but we really want to walk to at least one park. We were really excited about YC - will BW be as nice? Still close to EP and HS right? Any pros for BW? We have 3 kids ages 10, 12 and 14.

As DVC members we usually stay at BWV but we have stayed at YC. There is no wrong decision here, both are great resorts. YC's pool is fantastic, but Boardwalk has night time entertainment and some great places to eat and drink. We absolutely love the ability to walk over to EPCOT, so if you feel like just going for an hour or so it's no big deal. We even walk to HS instead of taking the boat some times. One small negative about YC is it's often used for convention groups so it may have a little of a business vibe if you're there during a large convention.

I would base my decision on when you'd rather go, length of stay, and cost instead of the resorts.

Exactly...

Does Stormalong Bay weigh heavily into the equation?
Do you prefer the weather in May vs. August? Or seeing the Flower and Garden Festival (if your dates fall into that?)
Is there more you can do in 8 nights than 5 nights? Do your overall costs (food/tickets/hotel) outweigh the benefits of extra nights/different resort?

If you like the idea of 8 nights over 5... and are just trying to convince yourself that the Boardwalk will be fine... take a few deep breaths and know you're not making a bad decision!

As the previous poster mentioned... there are certainly pros and cons to each resort. The Yacht Club is currently 'rocking' a few fantastic upgrades with their rooms and quick service/sit down restaurant... that the Boardwalk absolutely falls short off. That being said... it doesn't make the Boardwalk a bad choice!

For us... 8 nights would always outweigh 5... and your difference of resorts (Boardwalk over Yacht Club) is almost like a drop in the bucket for such a comparison! Are you having to sacrifice anything for the extra nights? If not... and the idea of a few extra nights of 'vacation' are enticing... than go for it!

Just understand the Boardwalk does lack a 'counter service' that many Disney resorts are known for... and there's a reason they call it the 'Boardwalk Inn'... it's quaint and quiet... and a nice escape from the hustle and bustle of the Boardwalk/Park environment. You're welcome to use the main pool on the DVC villas side of the resort, but as a previous poster mentioned, Stormalong Bay at the Yacht Club will take top honors here. Stormalong Bay also tends to be one of the most hectic and busy pools on property... like mentioned... pros and cons to every resort amenity.

I must say that May has significantly better weather than August... but if you find yourself having a few extra nights, a more relaxing park touring plan, and a bit more time for breaks/pool/resort/water... you could tackle it well!

Having done both resorts, I'm 100% team BW. We always walk to Epcot from there, honestly we had a far away room at YC and the walk seemed longer lol. The HS walk is long and hot in summer, but totally doable if you're up for it. I love the BW pool, but stormalong bay is the best on property if that's very important. And BW does have good food options, there's the bakery and a couple of stands for quick meals, but it is lacking in a seating area if that's important to you. As a child of a teacher and forever student myself, we often go in August and make the most of it with breaks from the heat. But I always go for more days when I can, I'm a sucker for a longer trip haha. Either way sounds like a great trip is in store for your family

We love them both, in fact, BWI is DS10's favorite resort. Yes, you can walk (or boat) to both EP and DHS. The only, possible, downside, is if you had your heart set on SAB. My DS10 loves the BWI pool, so we typically just book whatever is cheapest in the EP area. I will say, I do prefer the weather in May more than the weather in August.
