I have really gotten into this new series on HBO.
The acting is incredibly good. And the story line for me is excellent.:thumbsup2
Steve Buscemi(Nucky Thompson) is so believable in that role and I think its a masterful performance. I have always loved his acting. He's so cool.;)

And Kelly Macdonald as Margaret Schroeder is superb.:)

Love it!!! I have to watch tonights on Demand tomorrow...can't watch with the kids around:scared1:

My husband and I are watching this and love it! I'm not sure I enjoy it as much as Sopranos, but it comes close.

Last night's episode was pretty over the top.

We're really enjoying the show, which probably is the kiss of death based on our track record.

What we can't stand is the opening sequence, music or visuals. Simply doesn't fit the show.

I tried. Honestly I did. I watched the first and second episodes but by the third one I'd totally lost interest. I just couldn't find myself caring about the characters or what was going on in their lives.

LOL, I downloaded the ringtone last night! I'm fond of that little jingle! :rotfl:

At first I thought that I would not get into this show. True Blood is my favorite.

However, I find it very interesting, the performances are amazing and I am glad that they renewed it for a second season. Cable TV is where the best shows are right now. I include TNT and TBS on that as well.

However, I am totally obsessed with Castle now too. Just love that show!!

I love Boardwalk Empire. I'm a huge fan of Atlantic City and its history, so this show is a dream come true for me. My boyfriend hasn't ever been to Atlantic City (well, his band played at Harrah's once, but he never left the hotel), so watching Boardwalk Empire together gives him a bit of a primer to prepare him for when we go to Atlantic City together (probably not until the spring or summer since money is tight).

Despite how much I love Steve Buschemi and Michael Pitt, I didn't love the first episode.

I'm going to give the series another try. I need to catch up on OnDemand. :)

I think it's amazing!! Jimmy is my favorite, but all the characters are intriguing. I go back and forth between liking and disliking Margaret-- the show gives me a lot to think about!
My ex's father plays Mayor Bacharach-- clearly not going to be in any more episodes!

A very good show . . . acting, characters, costumes are all top notch. However, something is missing. I think that storylines are developed just to have storylines and we are left with a wandering plot with no real direction. The Chicago prostitute and the introduction of Nan Britton (for example) seem to add little to the story. I assume that most of this will be tied together at some point but often it seems that certain storylines lead to a dead end. Will Agent Van Alden's tryst with Nucky's ex lead to her cooperation with the Feds or does it reveal that he is fallible and can be corrupted?

My guess is that Margaret's specific knowledge of Nucky's dealings make her an important part of the operation (at some point she directly or indirectly threatens Nucky so that he must keep her around.) Of course, Al Capone's is likely to become a Thompson ally in the war with Rothstein.

Though the story is fictional the writers may be boxed in by history. We know that Nucky (in real life Nucky Johnson) did not go to prison until 1941 and did not die until the 1960's. Lucky Luciano died in 1962 and Meyer Lansky in 1983. Arnold Rothstein died in 1928 but given the show's timetable that seems too far off to do something with. Some of the storylines seem to track history so it will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Finally, the theme song may be the worst ever in that it just does not fit. Why do they even need one?

We are loving it! We were in AC the week before the show premiered and they were promoting the heck out of it out there, so we added HBO again just for that show. We had cancelled it after Sopranos ended and really didn't want to spend more money on cable, but they offered us a deal of Showtime and HBO for only $4 more a month. I can totally see Margaret starting to use Nucky's power in her favor...she doesn't want to go back to the working class lifestyle she was living in before. I really, really love the clothing and hats from that era too, my boss threw a Roaring 20's party a few years ago and it was so much fun!

Great so many of us like this show.:)
I enjoy the opening very much. To me it fits.
And I agree about many plots and where its going but I think it will be just so damn good when it comes together.:worship:
I'm a HUGE Dexter fan but now watch this on Sunday night then watch Dexter on demand.:rolleyes1

I am glad to hear they renewed it, I had not heard that!

my dh read the book, and he said the show and characters are very different a lot of what is in the show was not in the book.
so they are doing it to spruce things up a bit,
he did say the show is way better than the book:thumbsup2

Did anyone watch last night!!!!!

I won't say anything for fear of spoiling, but..... WOW is what I will say!!!!!!!
