Boardwalk availability question

How difficult is it to book BW 1 BRs or studios at 7 months? Love it there, but with only a few years left don’t want to make that “home”

Depends on why you are traveling, but 1 bedrooms will be easier than studios. That is a very popular resort from mid September until after the Marathon in January...so about mid January and will be difficult to get, even for 1 bedrooms...nothing is ever impossible, but certainly one of the harder ones to get during that timeframe.

There are a lot of pool/garden rooms so that helps...don't count on SV or BW view rooms as those get scooped up by owners.

IMO, as time goes on and we get within 10 years of the expiration, it is going to be harder and harder to book there since many owners may decide not to trade out in the same way they occasionally do now.

We just finished a weeklong stay in a standard 1BR in May that we booked 6 months out. I imagine it'll get harder to book in the fall.

Im gonna say BWVs can be tough any time of the year. With all the festivals at EP and it being walkable from BWV, it can be rough to get.

I've seen the standard studios go first and 1 bedrooms seem to last longer. I believe all the 2 bedrooms, or at least most of the 2 bedrooms there are lock-offs.

We ended up purchasing a small contract there so we could get a couple of nights at the 11 month window for the walk to EP. We didn't feel the 19 years left was an issue.

Depends on when you are going and how often you are stalking. This is the room I book the most, and it's never been booked at 7 months when I go (off peak). Obv, I mean pool view, standard or BW will require home points, though I did get lucky with a BW view wait list once.

I can be very difficult year round to get a standard view in any room category at seven months (it can be difficult at eleven months) and it isn't a given to get a studio at seven months year round. One bedrooms have better availability, but can still be tight enough.

There is always a big difference between seven months and six months and three weeks. People who are able to log in first thing in the morning often snap up reservations. People who are willing to stalk the website looking for cancelled reservations have been able to find things that were booked up months ago. But even then, if what you are looking for is a BWV room over Food and Wine - that doesn't always happen for non-owners even using all the tricks.

Ok thanks. We would travel either end of august, early Nov, or early to mid Dec. But always a possibility of other random times during the year if I see some cheap air. And mainly for resort only 1 or 2 night stays there. I saw a $3500 25 pt resale there and it was sold so fast

I think you'd be very disappointed them for your November/December trips to regularly get BWV, even 1 bedrooms. That is also a time of year that people book at 11 months just to be sure to have something too....

Ditto. I got to try Boardwalk last week and I can see why people like it, likewise for Beach Club. But the 2042 expiration is a deal breaker for me and until that point I’ll suck it up and scrounge 1BR availability until then. In 2042 I’ll probably consider buying there but for now I’m content staying at many of the other WDW resorts.

I’ve said in many threads from cost perspective the extra years on something expiring 2042 vs something 2070 is not that different. Most of the costs associated with purchase are related to dues and time cost of money/interest. This is justification I used to buy boardwalk resale recently (e.g. it’s much cheaper to book standard view with boardwalk points then cheapest sap booking garden view).

Lolll that’s actually not a bad idea.. maybe I’ll pick up just a small 100 pointer.. . I think BCV was more my vibe though but those cash rooms at BWV were quite nice. Honestly can’t go wrong with either one but ugh that 2042 expiration I just can’t justify when I could get PVB/BLT for like 10-15 dollars more per point and for an additional 18+ years. If I were in my 50s-60s I’d probably say screw it and just go all in

Ironic, I’m always trading out of Boardwalk to get into Beach Club!

After the refurb though I do plan on staying at Boardwalk more often. The 2042 expiration is a good thing in my view so I was happy to buy there.

We paid almost double per point for a small BWV resale than we did for 150pts VGF direct. These are our only 2 contracts. I don’t feel like BW was a bad value because we will more easily and consistently get access to 10pt studios and BW Views, making the premium price worth it to us.

Our VGF points cost about $12/pt with dues to use each year, BW around $16. Hypothetically, maybe I could luck out with VGF points to get 5 nights Std Studio every 4 years or so, like 20-25% of the time (and working hard to get it). Here the 10pt studio would cost $120/nt. My BW points would cost about $160/nt but likely to get it 80% of the time and with a bit less work. That extra $40/nt is worth it for us to more reliably gain access. Still a great deal since we love staying at that resort.

I'm assuming they meant when you spread the cost out per the life of the contract. So with BWV at 19 years left and VGF at 41 years left if they paid roughly the same for VGF as BWV per point the cost per point per year would be about double.

Now that isn't actually true because you should factor in time value of money, but that is another discussion to be had.
