Boardwalk area places to eat

We have a free evening (where we won't have park admission) and I was thinking of visiting the Boardwalk area. We've never been. I'd like to eat dinner there. We'll have our 6 & 2 year olds, and the Signature restaurants don't appeal to us. We'll want to use our TS credits. How is the Big River Grille? Any other suggestions?

Spoodles is a perannual favorite of a lot of people on the DIS.

They serve flatbread pizza, tapas style food etc.

We love the Cape May buffet - it is NOT all seafood. The kids section is great and the desserts are very yummy!

We also like ESPN, but don't know about how little ones would like all those TVs with sports playing on them.

Big River is a basic American fare chain restaurant. I didn't think there was anything endearing about it, though many say the seating outside makes the experience special and I can understand that.

We enjoyed Spoodles a lot. ESPN Zone might also be fun if your family enjoys sports.

The only one I have eatten at is Big River Brew and Grille Works. We chose it because it had outdoor seatting. The food was OK, the beer was good, the setting was fantastic.

Pardon me if this is a stupid questions... but I thought Cape May was at Beach Club.. how far is that from the Boardwalk area? We also have a free evening and thought about doing this as well but I wasn't sure how far apart they are... Also what else is there to do at the Boardwalk?

ESPN - Good food, noisy. Not sure if it is on the meal plan.

Big River Brew and Grille Works - I personally like this place, as does DW.

Cape May Cafe - I am not a fan - maybe I am just used to better seafood from New England. A lot of people like the fanfare here though.

Captains Grille - What a hidden gem!! I would highly recommend this (at least if it is as good as it was under its old name)

Yachtsmen Steakhouse - i have not been here yet, but heresay says it is great!

Spoodles - Another good one, although I our last experience here wasn't nearly as good as in year's past. I believe the wife of the Chef of V&As used to be the executive here and no longer is.

Beaches and Cream - Another I have not experienced though I plan on doing so this upcoming summer. Go get a kitchen sink sundae!!!!

We ate at BRG, inside (cold-Feb.) and the food was fine, beer was awesome, but the inside atmosphere was awful...looks like a bad tomorrowland hallway (I'm talking bathroom hallway, not a neat queue), not a microbrewry. My DH was seated in the path of the servers and the wind from the front door, our table wobbled terribly. If you go, only sit outside- nice view.

Yacht and Beach Club are right on the Boardwalk so you are a short walk away from the action side of the Boardwalk. It is a bit of a carnival atmosphere, with surrey rides, "street performers" (i.e. magic shows, a little comedy, etc), Jelly Rolls dueling Piano Bar, Atlantic Dance Hall, shopping, ESPN Arcade and a lot of strollers meandering along the way. You can hotel tour the Swan, Dolphin, Boarwalk, Yacht Club, and Beach Club as well as sort of see the fireworks for Illuminations.

We've eaten at ESPN several times. DS (10) and DD (16) are both into sports and like looking at all the Pro Player Jerseys hanging on the walls and the noisy atmosphere.
Last summer we ate outside at BRG. The food and beer were great and it's a good spot to relax and people-watch.

With 2 young children, I would recommend Cape May Buffet at the Beach Club. It is just across the "lake" from Boardwalk and if the walk is a little too much for the kids, you can always take the boat.. The street performers that come out at night, usually around 8 will entertain your kids, especially the jugglers, and magicians. They usually "pull" a child from the crowd to help them, so do bring a camera or camcorder.

Thanks for the tips. I saw in the Unofficial Guide that the BRG doesn't accept reservations, so that's a no-go for us. Our toddler does not wait patiently! I think the Cape May buffet sounds good - I will try to get ADRs for that. Thanks again!

I'm not sure BRG is part of the DDP anyway.

Flying Fish is another alternative. It's nice, but not too fancy. Isn't Yachtman's Steakhouse a signature restaurant?

Let us know how Cape May Buffet is. That may be an option for us on our next trip.

Flying Fish is a signature restaurant. I would for sure go for Cape May especially with little ones, we are always on the boardwalk and it is a great place to stay, and also walk around at night, they have a pretty cool pool too, you should for sure walk past that, also getting some ice cream at beaches and cream and just going for a walk around the boardwalk is pretty at night too.
