im confused i read in one guide that the atlantic dance hall has a 10 piece band playing swing hits another says its a dj not a live band one says there is a live band but only certin nights. also one guide says all clubs in the boardwalk and pleasure island are 21 and over and another says only on certin nights and yet another says under 21 can enter if they are with a parent or guardian. my other question is can you enter downtown disney without your disney ticket say like you want to go just spend a day shopping and then that evening go to the clubs? or do you have to do it while your at your disney stay?

I can't answer all of your questions, but the one about PI, I can try.

The last time that I was at DTD/PI (March "04) from 7p to 9p you are able to get into the area to shop, eat, drink and just walk around with out paying for a ticket or having to show your ticket. BUT, you can not get into the clubs.

If you want to get into the clubs, you have to pay for a ticket, or have a ticket that encludes PI. And yes, they will now if you have a valid ticket for entry at the clubs, because when you swipe your ticket (and show your ID) at the gate to get in you also get a wrist band, that lets the clubs know if you are either under 21 or over 21, you can not get into any of the clubs at PI with out the wrist band. (Or I think its 21 and over get a wrist band and 20 and under get a hand stamp, not 100% sure about the hand stamp.)

The only places that I go in PI is the Adventures Club and Comedy Warehouse. At those clubs there is no real age requirement, but as the night goes on, the comedy inside can get a little suggestive. So if you are thinking about taking young ones I would do it just as the clubs open up.

Now according to Birnabaum's WDW guide book, guest 18-20 can get into all the clubs with no problems. But you can not get into Mannequins and the BET Sound Stage if you are under the age of 21).

I hope this will be of some help. I am sure some one will come along with more info.

Atlantic Dance Hall has a posted age requirement of being 21 to enter, but I have gone there with my 18 year old bother and have never had a problem getting in, we have just been carded at the bar. But maybe they only inforce the over 21 thing on weekends? Also, they usually post what nights will have a live band vs. a dj.

I believe that Mannequins at PI also requires you to be 21 to enter .

As far as the Downtown Disney area, you don't need a ticket to get into Downtown Disney. It is split up in two parts. One part closes eariler, and the other part with the nightclubs stays open later. You can walk along all of Downtown Disney during the day with no admission. However, to get into the nightclubs, you have to pay. We spend a lot of time at Downtown Disney. There is a lot to see and do. It's a not miss (especially if you like to shop). There are restaurants there and live entertainment on some nights. I think when we were there there was a high school band performing or something. The Market Place is the area with all of the shops and restaurants. Westside is more of the clubs. Here is a link to All Ears Net. It describes each area very well.

Downtown Disney Information

Atlantic Dance plays host to a variety of sounds. Tuesday - Saturday the club comes alive with a DJ Dance Party, featuring all styles of music with an open-request format. 21 years or older ONLY, Proper ID required. (They've gotten more strict about this lately.) Doors open at 9:00pm.

At Pleasure Island, BET Soundstage and Mannequins are 21 and over ONLY (no exceptions). During Spring Break they went to 18 and over for some evenings, but they're back to 21 and up again. All other clubs are all ages, although anyone under 18 MUST be accompanied by a parent or guardian. In fact, guests under 18 won't even be allowed on the Island without adult supervision. Comedy Warehouse and Adventurer's Club tend to be more "family friendly" at the earlier shows, with the humor getting more "adult" as the night goes on.

Downtown Disney is free to enter -- you can shop, go to restaurants, etc. There is an entry fee for Pleasure Island after 7pm. If you happen to be on the Island prior to 7pm, you won't be asked to leave. However, you will not be able to enter any of the clubs or purchase alcohol unless you have paid admission. (You receive a bracelet with admission that proves you've paid AND lets the bartenders know if you are over or under 21.) There is no way to visit the clubs without paying admission to PI.

Pleasure Island is open to anyone -- on-site guests, locals, tourists from other hotels, etc.
