If you have aol there is a message board in their "travel" section.

I don't know of any boards for visiting NYC but I do have a tip. Please Please, if you plan to go down to the WTC site, don't take a picture of your family smiling in front of it. It drives us crazy!! Other than that, have a great time. We love NY!!

You can try the United States boards on the "Talk" section of Fodor's.com. Those boards are not divided up like these, and they move fast, so you may have to search for your posting to keep up with it, but folks can be very helpful there.

I agree!!! The smiling thing has got to go. Last time we were there, we saw a lot of this. I think people just don't know what to do when they are getting their pics taken. My advice is to just take the pics without people in your party in them.

We took this pic back in July, and I thought I would share:

Wow! Great Pic. Are you going down this weekend? I'm going down on Sunday. I figured Sat. would be way crowded. I agree to take the pics with no one in them. I guess people want to prove they were there??

Thanks! I can't take the credit since my sister's boyfriend snapped it while we were there.

I'm not going down this weekend. The weather looks like it will be great though! It always works out that way on September 11th...sunny and windy. I always say the wind is the angels letting us know they are out there :)

I came across this site a while back if anyone is interested. Make sure you have some tissues handy though

And whatever you do, do NOT buy a baseball cap that says "Ground Zero" on it.

Seriously though have a great trip. I know Unofficial Guide does NYC.

Make sure you come out and see Brooklyn. Walk across the Bridge, go to Grimaldi's under the Brooklyn Bridge for a great pizza, and take the water ferry back.

Thanks for all the great tips. I will always respect the lives that were lost on that day. I thank you for the insight you have provided. We are in planning mode and looking foward to our trip. My DD 9 years old has progressive hearing loss and she will be attending a research study in Bethesda at the National Institute of Health sometime next year. God Bless... and thanks again..:)

Okay!! I'm going on the site!! I have my tissues handy but I think I'll be okay because I'm all cried out from Sat. But you never know so I have tissues right here. You know.....I took the path train in on Sun. and you come out right in the pit. I was shocked. We were right in the bottom of the pit. Then, if you remember when the trade center was there, you come up from the path, go through the turnstiles and then go up the big escalators and you were in the concourse of the trade center. Well they rebuilt the station the same way except when you come up from the escalators, you're in another level of the pit and you go up more steps and then you're on the street. It was so eerie. I half expected to come off the escalators and see all the great stores that were in the concourse.....sigh! :sad1:

I went to the trade center site last August. It really isn't a place that you even feel like smiling. It is really a somber place to be and is so eerily quiet down there. It is a good place to go and pay your respects.
