Well, I would agree that it appears to have worked, because they seem much much faster. Question though, by "hiding" them, does that mean those threads are essentially closed? Sorry if this is a dumb question.

I agree. They are a lot faster. I think there were so many duplicate postings because people kept hitting the refresh or back button after posting a reply. (Myself included)
Another vBulletin board I frequent closes threads when they reach the 1,000 post mark. If lengthy threads are the root cause of the slowdowns, then I suggest that this be a permanent change.
The board I speak of still has the default vBulletin search available as well, so it is definitely possible.
YES! I can use the boards again! Between the super-slow boards and our crummy router, I'd pretty much given up on even trying to board for a while. Boards fixed, router replaced--I'm back, baby!
