Boarding pets while staying at a Disney Resort

It depends upon what you are allergic to....

I am not allergic to their hair. their insides.... (okay I can't spell the correct word) - when they lick themselves is my problems - same with cat allergies - doesn't care if it is long, short or no hair....it is not a hair problem.

that is why I can't allow a dog to lick me and you know they want too.... and I must wash everything that touched the dog.

doesn't mean I still don't love doggies....

One day I will get one again - hey what is modern medicine for it not to either cure you or at least help you with allergies....

they have done wonders for me!!! and I mean wonders!!! I was allergies to over 350 things (and yes they tested me with water no reaction).... now it is less than 10!!!!

but since I didn't have a dog they refused to put dog in the shots...so I still have a problem with them.

that is why it is so hard to clean up - it is not the fur that makes most people sick - it their dander. you can hardly see it - so it makes it hard to clean up completely.

there are no allergy free cats or dogs - because it is not the hair that I react too.

now I have been know to give my poor cats baths - they come in and I can't be around them without an allergic reaction - generally breathing problem, sneezing, rash, etc so times for the baths - they hate them - but it either bath or not be around me.

Spiceycat, As far as the dog allergies, its probably from the dog licking itself and then licking you that causes the problem, bc my husband also cannot be licked by many dogs, he breaks out in an immediate rash. Our dog doesn't cause this problem so I know what you mean about getting a rash from being dog licked and honestly take it from 2 really allergic people, there are dogs that don't cause allergy problems to persons with allergies, maybe there a small few, but we were HIGHLY allergic. I had asthma as a child from dogs and cats and my husband still. We were petrified to get a dog originally. Wouldn't it be wonderful for Disney to build a big huge pet friendly resort with playgrounds and walking grounds for the pets?? really make it like a disneyworld park resort for pets! They could even section areas for cat and dog owners, with wonderful disney like play area, particularly since their own kennels are so limited. I think they would make a literal fortune and honestly as much as I love Disneyworld, money does seem to be their driving factor hehe. I really have no idea how large families do it but as my pet is like my own child, I would LUV to be able to bring her.

I really think pets (other than service animals) are best left at home in the care of a loving, petsitter. Most animals do much better in their own, familiar surroundings. I can't imagine carting a dog or cat to WDW and then having to turn around every couple of hours to walk or visit them.
During my stay at the Animal Kingdom Lodge I saw security talking to a mousekeeper who had reported a non-service dog that had been found in the room. I don't know what happened to the dog or the people occupying the room, but security and management did get involved.

Was there in January with my beloved Cav..name Flash.....he'd never been in a kennel before....relatives and friends always volunteer to take care of him while we're on vacation.....DD moved to Orlando in May 05, and since DH was driving DMiL down, DH took Flash with him for the car ride....stayed offsite at LaQuinta for a few nights with pets allowed in our room, and then went to VWL for the rest of the trip...Flash stayed at MK Kennel Club and FW Kennel Club....all Cast Members at both sites were wonderful....yes, we did have to go and walk him..recommended that we walk him at least twice during a day for 10 minutes.....knowing he was in the kennel, we went back and walked him at least 4 times and for more than 10 minutes....DD took him for 2 nights at her apartment, but if he stayed more than that she'd be charged for a pet. We were very impressed by the personnel, and even more surprised that they told us all of the Kennels on property will board your pet overnight, but only the Kennel at MK can you go and visit them after park hours....they give you a # for security and security has a list of all "Kennel Club Guests"....and they let you into the Kennel to visit your pet!!! All in all it was a wonderful first experience dealing with a kennel, and Flash now has a Disney Kennel Certificate for his keepsake book!!!!!

If Disney were to open a pet friendly hotel, I guarantee you would have to make ressies at least three years in advance !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

100% occupancy all of the time !!!!!!!!!

Our solution to this problem is camping and staying at Fort Wilderness.

at any of the WDW kennels - you can visit and walk your animal after closing...

there is generally a number to call security.

at FW - just call the FW front desk.

the others, I think, still list the phone numbers on their doors to call security.

Disney is considering a kennel that caters to pets - but for some reason they are dead against consider a pet friendly hotel... :(

I also really wish they would...

right now, I stay at offsite timeshares that does allow pets - Celebration World Resort.

the last time I looked at FW - you had to have a RV with an air conditioning - so I don't consider this camping... camping is a tent....

they were not even allowing the popup to have their pets....

oh well one day!!!

Unfortunately leaving my dog at home in a boarding kennel is becoming less of an option. My poor yorkie only weighs 5 lbs as it is, and whenever I returned from a vacation without her, she had lost weight, had diarrhea and behavior problems. I had someone pet sit her that I trust when we went on a cruise and she still lost weight. When I take her on vacation, she absolutely loves it. When she sees us packing, she knows what it means and gets so excited and happy, she luvs to travel and is so excited to go places. But we do spend a lot of time with her also which I think is imperative if you do bring your pet on vacation. We aren't at the parks all day like some. I think if you are someone that is never going to see your pet, is staying at a Disney Resort and only see them to walk them a couple times a day in those crate kennels of Disney's, I would consider leaving the pet home if possible. I do hope if enough people write about it, call about it, maybe Disney will eventually do something! :rotfl: :thumbsup2 :goodvibes

I totally agree with you. My husband and I pay an absolute premium for a live-in petsitter for our two pooches, but it is someone we LOVE, and she is worth every penny. When we travel, we just budget and save for her. Maybe I would take the puppies to a FW cabin, but that would be it...and honestly, we never go back to the room during the day anyways at WDW, so it just wouldn't be fair.

One of the web pages says that although pets are not permitted in Disney Theme Parks or Resorts, they are also welcome in selected locations within Disney's Fort Wilderness Campground.

Anyone tried this??? :cheer2:

Wilderness Campground allows pets in certain sections if you're camping with a camper. They don't allow them in any of their cabins, which I think is also unfortunate as we considered this. I hope someday Disney will become a little more accommodating. Universal hotels do and it seems to work out fine for them!

FW only allows pets in RV - not just tents or even pop ups....

only the very, very expensive RV....which are not fun (in opinion) to drive.

even though the popup also have airconditioning....

I asked and that was what I got told....

so that is not an option for me.

Spicey loves to travel. He hasn't been anywhere in a while and he can get down right mean....

I also spend time with him - when he wants it. Cats sleep alot during the day - so after a 5 to 10 min walk and breakfast and lunch - he makes it very plain he wishes I would leave.... he curves up and ignores us....

now at night a completely different story - his after supper walk - not to mention his night walk - could last hours if I allowed it.....wish of course I do - so the times when I am too tired he is a little disappointed after only an hour....
