Ok, so I'm a relatively new member to the board and soon to be (hopefully) DVC member. I now pledge to never, ever use the term "Ressie" instead of simply "reservation" or "res" in my future posts and discussions here on the board... :) For some reason I can't stand this term and it sounds like baby talk.

However, if this is part of the accepted vocabulary, then I have some more suggestions that should make just as much sense:

-"Bussie" for bus
-"roomie" for room
-"hoppie" for parkhopper
-"pointie" for point
-"railie" for monorail
-"lotie" for parking lot
-"castie" for cast member
-"tractie" for attraction
-"Dinie" for dining plan
-"Swimie" for swiming pool
-"Boardie" for boardwalk
-"Duelies" for Maintanence Dues
-"Wheelie" for Wheelchair
-"Advancie Ressie" for Dining Reservation
-and last but not least: "The Clubie" for Disney Vacation Club!

:rotfl2:

Okay, good luck with your pledgie not to use ressie.

Enjoy using your Clubie Pointies to make ressies at your resortie. Be sure and visit the Parkies.

I couldn't agree more. I try to avoid initials as much as possible too, such as "DH" and "DBIL" and the like. I think some people use them because they think it's sort of "in" or "cool" to do so, and some probably really are trying to save time or effort.

But too many initials and short forms of words sometimes make it very difficult to tell what the heck the poster is trying to say. It really does not take that much more effort to type the entire word. Try it ... "dear wife," "dear mother and law," and the like. Good grief!

And do you always say "dear" when talking about your relatives? I think not.

:rotfl:

I think the correct spelling is Resie with a singular s. As in; to reservie :teacher: :lmao:

I am sorry but I have a broken finger and putting down DH, DS, OKW works better and it is faster. ADR's are needed for my Jan. ressie! Duelies is not dues but a truck that has two gas tanks like mine. Everyone knows that.

Sorry, the acronyms are here to help everyone express thoughts without having to type so many words.

I am going to take my duelly truck and go putt putt down the road! :rotfl: :rotfl:

another one is swimmie is TWO m's, not one, lol :teeth:

Actually, i was never a fan of the DH and all that and never use them either and i think some people use them to "fit in" with the boards. It might save the poster time but sometimes these abbrevies :teeth: only cost the reader MORE of their time!

A Duallie aka: Dually, is a truck with Dual-rear wheels. Everyone knows that! :thumbsup2

Ok, I gotta get back to workie now.

I think the abbreviations on this board should be referred to as "DISbonics". Example would be: "My dorkie, nerdie hubbie is really a sweetie", to quote my wife. Dorky, Nerdie Hubby would become DNH.

I'm with you Mtnman44. :thumbsup2

I have never used the term 'ressie' (except for now ;) ) and I always refer to my husband as, well, my husband.

I understand why people do it, but I don't want to get too lazy! :thumbsup2

PS I was trying to read a post the other day with all the Ds..DH, DSIL, DS, DD, DN.......
I got so confused I stopped reading it! So sad... :sad2:

I've been online since well, since around 1994??? or as DH likes to say - when Al Gore himself invited us to use the internet he "invented". and I've used abbreviations for all of that time - starting with the AOL boards. Don't think that the DIS invented them.

Anyway, since we are reinventing things, I now proclaim this smilie :rotfl2: to be "dragging one kicking and screaming into the internet acronyms of the 21st century".

Oh, yeah, Mtnman44. I'm with you on this one. :thumbsup2

I am fine with the acronyms (DH, etc.), probably because I've worked in the computer field for so long. But ressie sounds too "cute" and I can't bring myself to use that term. I don't really like having to type out "reservation" all the time either so if someone wants to come up with a good acronym for it, I'll be OK with that! :thumbsup2

Ressie lovers, unite! Personally, I like the term. But then again I'm a mom to a little one.

As for DIS shortcuts, thank heavens we can just type COP or POTC. Isn't it great that everyone here knows what you mean? It's like a secret world where those other non-Disney friends have no idea what you mean.

BTW, I've accidently referred to my hubbie as DH in real conversations....

While I don't use the term "ressie", I have a pretty long list of other things in this world that bother me more.

And I think DH, DW et al is great because only I really know what I mean by the "D" in each of them!! :teeth:
