Bluegrass Airport, Lexington KY

Anyone ever flown out of there? Despite growing up in LEx, having tons of family still there and making many pick ups and drop offs, I jave never had to use them. I hear it is small and not very efficient, and to get there at least 2 hours ahead of flight. We are driving straight from work in another town to fly out of here, just wondering what I should plan for.

Hello! I've used BG Airport a bunch of times and it's a piece of cake! I always use curbside check-in and just walk to my gate. 45 min early is plenty of time. I've never had any problems there at all, so don't really know why you would hear that. There's really nothing to be inefficent at. That said, I always check in online before I head over, use curbside to drop off checked bag, then get through security. I've never had a problem with security either. The airport is so small, there's no way to get lost or anything. Where are you coming from?

The last time I flew out (Labor Day weekend), I was by myself, no checked bags. I parked in the parking garage and 20-25 minutes later I was sitting at the Delta gate (the furthest one from the parking lot).

If you're by yourself or with another adult, I'd plan to arrive at least an hour beforehand. If you've got kids, I'd stretch that to 90minutes to 2 hours. These assume you have checked bags. No checked bags & adults only, 45 mintues to 1 hour.

We are driving from Louisville to Bluegrass, SDF's flights were all way more expensive and didn't fit our schedule anyway.

It is our 2y8m daughter, my husband and myself, with a carseat, stroller, 3 personal bags and 3 carry ons. We may need all that time but I was just shocked when a few people told me 2 hours. But then again, I am used to solo flying with checked bags and can show up at SDF an hour before my flight.

I would allow 2 hours because of the car seat, stroller, toddler, and all the bags.

Drop off DH (or he drops you off) with bags and everything (including DD) curbside then go park.

Also, if you're not familiar with it, exit I64 at US60 (exit 53), and turn right (east toward Versailles). It will take you right to the airport instead of driving to Lexington and then 'backtracking' to the airport.

Thank you Sam, that is good to hear we may need it for all of our stuff. My brother regularly flys in and out of LEX, solo with one bag and no carry ons and he still said 2 hours, so I was scared we may need even more.

And yes, that is the route we take, it is a much nicer drive than staying on 64 anyway. I grew up in Lexington and we are there once a month, which is also one of the main reasons we are using it: family will be dropping us off and we have a place for an overnight stay if there is a delay, my parent's are 2 miles from the airport.

The only thing I can't remember is if they still offer curb side check in. If they do, I'd take advantage of that and tip the guy $5 for your three bags.

I just looked. The airport's website is advocating arriving 90 minutes ahead of time. I think you've got more stuff than 'normal', so 2 hours should cover it.

I think LEX is the best airport to fly out of . We typically fly our of CVG and flew from Lexington last time on Allegiant. The airport is so small it takes no time at all to get through security and everything is very relaxed. We love it

I fly out of Lex and enjoy the smaller size. Not sure flights there are so much cheaper than SDF, but works out well for me.

I live in Northern KY and was looking at Allegiant at one point...how are they? LEX should be easy (I've been there a couple times) but how is Sanford? How's transportation to WDW?
