Blue Sleeping Beauty Dress

Make it blue! Make it pink! Make it blue! Pink! Blue! Pink!
:rotfl:

What a creative idea! How did Aurora like it? :cutie:

Aurora loved it! She asked for us to mail her a copy of the picture - which we did.

When we saw Aurora again in DL (WINK WINK) she had the photopass photographer take pictures for her as well to keep.

One mom offered me $200 for the dress I told her she would have to talk to dd. LOL!!! DD really gets a lot of attention when she wears this. Although people who do not know the princess stories simply think she is trying to be both Cinderella and Aurora! LOL!!

I just had an image of that dress made out of blue/pink iridescent fabric. Ah, if my DD would wear princess dresses, I'd be on the hunt...

Bless my sister especially since I can not even sew a button on a shirt. She worked really hard to make this for my dd. She is a great sister and Aunt!!!

Omigod! I was just about to post that I had once seen a little girl in an ingenious Aurora costume that was half pink, half blue....and then I saw Tinkerbelle's Mom's picture!

Last August, I was working with my chipmunk pals in Toontown. Did you happen to visit them with your daughter wearing that dress??
:)

Wow... thanks so much for all the help everyone. I kinda expected a quick "sorry, you are out of luck" response. The pic of the half pink/half blue dress is very cute and creative. I am going to look here for a pattern and see what fabric I can find then I might be able to find someone to sew it. :) My dd has been wanting to be Aurora since she was 2 and she is now 7 and we will be attending the party Halloween night. I will pay a bit more for a dress that looks very much like the original using perhaps velvet and satin, fitted and with the little extra details. Thanks again!

Yes we did!! Oh this is too cool! All of the CMs we encountered that vacation loved her dress!

I was wondering though why if her *official color* is pink is she usually in the blue dress at the breakfasts and Cindy's castle... Funny.

Ok, a little OT, but who is the Princess in the Backround of this pictue? Doesn't look like any of them:confused3

That is Rose Petal she is the host of the Princess tea that takes place at the GF. She is an enchanted rose that came from the Sleeping Beauty story. She entertains the children (and adults as well) as we progress thru the tea party in anticipation of Aurora's arrival.

I second the Simplicity pattern. They are great and by Disney. If you have enough time . . . You can always ask for recomendations of someone local who maybe able to make it for you. I am working on Cinderella for my DD now.

They also have the Disney princess patterns for American Girl dolls!

I so need to learn how to sew! I love the idea of princess costumes but I would prefer to make them myself. How hard is it to sew an outfit?

I have no formal training. Not even homec. I can make doll clothes for my dd Kit doll. Just read the pattern really well. All of the instructions are there. If you find fabric on sale the most expensive part is the pattern.

When I was buying the material dd asked if it could look like when the fairies were fighting over it. She wanted it both pink and blue. So my sister made it half blue and half pink.

:) That's what DH wanted to do with our dress. :)

DD was appalled by the idea though! She thought it was even worse when DH tried to convince her to have it green. DH likes to be unique.

DH will be pleased that someone actually made the dress half pink & half blue.

My sister thought the idea was a little crazy and made her dd one in only pink. To each his or her own!!

When it comes to sewing, I think figuring out measurements, cutting out the pattern, and pinning things up correctly, are the hardest parts. The act of sewing with a machine is really easy, it just goes.

I've made 2 of the Sleeping Beauty costumes - one for each DD in 2 different sizes. Unfortunately, I have a several sewing projects on the table already and can't take on another. The pattern does give examples of fabrics to purchase. I always spent extra time in the fabric stores looking for fabric that was washable - very important IMHO! It also depends on the time of year you are going. When we went in Sept, I used sheer fabric on the sleeves but when we went in Dec, the sleeves were solid fabric. I also lined it with cotton broadcloth instead of standard lining materials to keep it a bit cooler. Just one more word on the Simplicity pattern - the dress is really heavy when finished (it takes a lot of fabric). Choose lighter weight materials to lighten the load of the finished product.

Do the patterns give suggestions on what sort of fabric to buy?

Yes, they do and you can ask one of the ladies at the fabric store to help you. I was in a little bit of a hurry so I asked the lady for help. She helped me find all the fabric and made better choices because she knew what was on sale!

i found a blue one here: store. costume city. com/ story 31. html (no spaces)

I hope it's what you're looking for!princess:
