Has anyone done the blue lagoon excursion in Nassau? This will be our 2nd Disney cruise and are planning on an excursion here -
not impressed with just wandering through town this time. We
have 3 teenage boys and a 9-yr old? Any recomendations?

We have done it twice. Its a 35 minute boat ride from the dock with a band on board going (no band returning) and a bar for drinks.

At the island the beach areas are nice, they have the usualy beach rental boats, the lunch below average, and two return times available.

I think doing it once is enjoyable, and teenagers can roam on their own, but the second time we were less inclined to stay there late.

We did this excursion last July on our 4 night cruise. It was wonderful. We spent some time on the beach after lunch and then took the early boat back. My children were 6 and 8, so I don't know how much the boys will get into it. The trainer makes you dance, kiss, and act silly with the dolphins. If you go, take your own photos...they are pricier than DCL, if you can imagine that.

WORTH EVERY CENT!!!!
BF wants to do the swim next time (yes I said next time!!!) :)

My wife and I went to the Blue lagoon 17 years ago on our honeymoon when it was called by the island's original name - Salt Cay. The water was clear and warm and we sat in a hammock and watched the day go by. Back then the northern shore had about 200' of sandy beach. Premier (disney's cruise partner before they got their own boats) gave us a great lunch.

Four years ago we were on a Carnival cruise and decided to go on the "Blue Lagoon" excursion. We were pleasantly surprised to learn that the blue lagoon was actually our honeymoon island, salt cay! The beach on the north shore is gone now, and they have dredged out the lagoon area to make it bigger now. There are buildings now that serve food. The dolphin encounter and stingray encounter are also new. My wife doen't swim, so she sat in the shade and read a book and I went to snorkel with the stingrays. When I read posts from people who say "Nassau was dirty" or "we didn't get off the boat", I think too bad they missed this wonderful island adventure.

We are going on the Wonder April 18, 2004 with our kids and we will be going out there for sure. I have my own snorkel equipment and I bought my daughter (11yrs) some too. This will be her first time to snorkel. My wife and 6 yr old son will find plenty to do as well.

Hope this convinces you to go.

Just curious, but does anyone happen to know what happened to that beach? Did a storm suck it up? Or was it seasonal - we saw the beach in the summer and it was gone in the winter?

If no one knows, I'll have to ask around when I get there in April.

I almost forgot - there is a tower on the island that was supposedly built by pirates.
