Thanks for the heads up on the Mahi Mahi, I "was" thining about it. We are going there in 3 weeks for DS3 birthday dinner. When I called and made reservations and asked about a water table they said if I wanted a water table to request it at the podium, they couldn't note anything on the reservation.

Also, how was the brulee crust? I like a nice firm thick'ish crust on my creme brulee and that looked a little soggy.

Last time I went was a few years ago and the service we had was AWEFUL, I think the server has been there for many years and just didn't care, she had that attitude. Hopefully this trip we get a better server.

I had the creme brulee for dessert. I remember it being fine. Not the best ever (I think the creme itself was a little cooler and thicker than I prefer), but I do vaguely remember the crust being good.

Did you know the sausage is chicken?

I ordered something w/o the sausage because I don't eat pork, then found some in something else one of us ordered. When we asked about it, the waiter told us it was chicken sausage. I said "well, if I'd known that, I wouldn't have ordered mine w/o it". (said in a friendly, joking way with a smile on my face, not in a rude way.) A moment later he brought me a little cup of the stuff.

We're vegetarian, so that doesn't matter, but I am sure it will help others!

We loved the BB... I got the pork chops, dd got the prime rib, and I'll have to look at the menu... I can't remember what my mom got... but we enjoyed it all... dd ate so little of the prime rib (because she is a tiny little thing) that the server took pity on us and removed it from the bill... which was very nice... we didn't wait for a water side table, and that would have been really cool... definately one of our favorite places to eat.

Atmosphere is what BB is all about. We are a family of 7 so we do lunch to save some money. Then DH and I share a plate, the 3 older girls get a kids meal, 2yr old (never eats more than a few fries) picks off someones plate and we all drink water (5th is only 5 months). Sounds a little cheap but with the food not being all that great it makes it more affordable and the kids love the place. For us its about being at DL, slowing down for a hr. or so in a quiet magical place and watching the boats go with people who don't know that the BB even exists.

Something I just remembered tonight - I remember getting a vegetarian corn dog at Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk about 15 years ago. I know someone going there in a few days and she's going to find out if they still do that.

assume when u split an entree herr the server brings it out & it's up to u to do the honors just wondering which entree would would be easier to split (think less fumbling/mess):

short ribs or prime rib

i mentioned to DH that we would probably split an entree and i got "the look" as in "how low-brow"...he doesn't get that it's accepted practice @ BB. (wait until i tell him we could just have dessert )

I don't know BB's policy, but at most restaurants that I split an entree at, they do the split in the kitchen. They often charge a few extra dollars to do the split, but they seem to increase the portion so that when split, you still get a generous sized meal (bigger than if you split the regular portion at the table).

Easy to save..it's very hard. We still have one from 06, but our grandson dropped the one from this May.

I think the "white sail" is made of the same stuff that the treasure chest from the creme brulee dessert is made of. We saved the treasure chest -- it's been at least a year now and it's fine. Definitely NOT made of chocolate or it would melt/spoil. I think it's sugar paste of some kind -- not tasty, but edible and extremely shelf-stable.

We split the short ribs entree at BB when we ate there last week, and this was indeed the case. Another in our party ordered the same, and I think we did get more split up then he did with a single order. We also got our choice of soup/salad each. The split charge was $4 at the BB I believe. Totally worth it since the portions are huge. I was completely full with the split entree, and I can eat!

Oh, we shared the crabcakes for an appetizer, and they were really quite yummy. I was thinking next time maybe I'll just have a salad and those, rather than one of the meals-- since the mahi mahi didn't float my boat.

Do they have a children's dessert menu?

Approx how much are drinks? Any special drinks other than mint julip (must try one of those)?

I can't remember if there was a special childrens dessert, but honestly they will want the boat thing even if it means sharing.

ozvisiter, order whatever you want. I was talking to a server at BB on the 26th about dessert-only, and she said that whatever patrons want to order, that's what they are there to get for you. So if you want dessert-only, just order dessert! You might want to stop them from bringing you the rolls (although they are GOOD rolls) b/c dessert and rolls with butter might be odd to eat together (my son felt differently, as he dipped his roll into his vanilla ice cream, which is all he wanted to eat on his birthday).


The split is done in the kitchen, and each of you will get your own salad! Before our food came our server went on a break and he brought our fill-in server to introduce us. When our food arrived each plate had so much food on it I called her over to ask if he had heard us right, to make sure it was actually a split plate.

She said it was, and that they try to be generous in the kitchen when splitting. She said that with our dish (the portobello mushrooms on couscous) they go by the size of the mushroom caps...since the caps we got were on the smaller side of a portobello, they gave us two each. It would normally only be two on a regular dish! She said that with the size of them on the non-split plate they probably would have put 3...so we got 1 more than we would have without splitting.

Basically, the servers there are very nice, and if you get someone that isn't know that that's just THEIR opinion, and you could go and talk to a manager if they give you attitude about a smaller order.


ozvisiter, this came out wrong when I was trying to tell someone at the parks (he glared at me), but I just want to make sure you know that their mint juleps do not have alcohol in them. The guy I was trying to tell that was getting WAY too excited about the Mint Julep Bar, and gathered his buddies together to go get a bunch of them. I said "they don't have alcohol in them" but I don't think he heard me right, and I think he thought I called him an alcoholic...but really, a non-booze drink really shouldn't inspire the excitement in his party! So just in case you didn't know, they are a virgin drink at Disneyland. (in Kentucky, not so much, LOL)

Thanks bumbershoot, I'm not concerned about alcohol- not really a big drinker anyway. I just want to experience everything. It will just be me and my 3 daughters so it's probably better if I don't drink on the job

Make a reservation if you can. It definitely helps. I was able to get in just by chance one time. DH and I did a split plate on a Monte Cristo Sandwich. If you have never had one, you really should try it. They are delicious! We were surprised at how nice the portions were for a split plate as well. We each got our own sides, and half of the sandwich was plenty for me (it's really rich). Can't wait to try dessert there in Sept...

My dd16 and I split the Tesoro Chicken plate. They brought me a plate full of food and my dd an empty plate. I split it between the two of us. We did, however, both get the wedge salad.

I thought that was kind of weird, I paid $4.00 for an empty plate?? I was ok with not getting more food (as some had mentioned, and typically you do) we had plenty, I just thought it was kind of odd.

By the way, the chicken was good, but the potatoes??? OH MY GOSH, they were YUMMY!!
