We went pre-COVID and recall this being one of their signature items. I just checked the menu and it’s no longer listed. Is this something that can be ordered off menu or does anyone have any news on this front?

They have it on the menu on the website but the app menu doesn’t have it. There is no steak and lobster either.

No big loss. That thing is disgusting lol. I know that is probably an unpopular opinion. BTW, I do like other Monte Cristo sandwiches, but not deep fried like the ones Disney serves.

Yeah, I love it. Odd, because I'm not into deep fried stuff as a general rule, but I DO love the Monte Cristo in Disneyland! However, I also only eat a portion of one (about 1/3). Far too rich for me to eat very much.

The Monte Cristo has never been on the dinner menu, just the lunch. And it sounds like the supply chain has cost the surf and turf recently.
I've never eaten there before so I didn't know it was lunch only, and frankly, I didn't want it anyway as it doesn't sound good to me. I'm not a fan of swiss cheese. Just commenting on my observations.

I am hoping to be able to score here for lunch, and one of the reasons was Monte Cristo for DD and DH can still get the Jambalaya. DD and I most likely will split the sandwich and knowing her she will be interested in the creme brulee. Another thought is that it's so rich, not wanting any tummy troubles later on.

Hoping that it will be available still in March.

I thought the key feature of a Monte Cristo is that it is fried.
Yeah, me too. I've never heard of one that wasn't fried. I think it's a variation of another sandwich, the Croque Monsieur. I think you can maybe bake it? But usually it's grilled or fried. They used to have those at La Brea restaurant in DTD.

That was what I was thinking... If it wasn't fried it was probably a Croque Monsieur.

The Monte Cristo comes in two main varieties out there in the world - the battered deep-fried version, popularized by the Blue Bayou, and a very similar sandwich served on egg and milk-dipped bread, basically French toast. The French toast version seems to be the most common one I see at diners. I think it's easier to make.

And there are 3 variations on that. The "proper" one where the sandwich is assembled on French toast, another where the sandwich is assembled on plain bread, then dipped and grilled, so only the outsides are "French-ified" and a third (totally wrong) one that's open faced, ham and turkey on French toast (usually), then covered with some sort of glop that's labelled 'cheese sauce' - not even Swiss :scared:.
And don't get me started on the places that leave out one of the meats :rolleyes2

I now make sure to ask before ordering if it's not specified on the menu. I've had too many unpleasant surprises when eating on vacation.

Every Monte Cristo I've ever had ANYWHERE has been fried.

Ones I've had weren't deep fried. Pan fried (like French toast). It was basically two pieces of French toast grilled with the meat and cheese inside. The one at DL doesn't seem to have anything I recognize as bread in it whatsoever?
