I made a res. for lunch here the first day of April for my bday and wanted to know what you guys recommend for lunch there? I will, for sure, be getting the Monte Cristo (this is the whole reason we're eating here pretty much). My DH ordered the Jambalaya last time and was not impressed. How bout the short ribs?

Buccaneer's Beef Short Ribs - Slow-roasted, then finished in a Zinfandel demi-glaze. With Blue Bayou potatoes and seasonal vegetables. $33.99

Royal Street Seafood Jambalaya - A robust combination of jumbo gulf shrimp, mahi mahi, tasso ham, andouille sausage and chicken, tossed with Cajun-style "dirty rice" $31.99

Tesoro Island Chicken - Roasted and finished to perfection in Pan Au Jus and served with Blue Bayou Potatoes and seasonal vegetables. $31.99

Roasted Beef Strip Loin - Seasoned with Chef's signature fivepepper blend, then slow roasted over rock salt. Topped with Armagnac sauce and crispy hand battered onion rings. With Blue Bayou potatoes and seasonal vegetables. $37.99

Cajun-Spiced Salmon - Stuffed with goat cheese, oven roasted tomatoes, artichokes topped with citrus beurre blanc and served with Blue Bayou potatoes and seasonal vegetables. $33.99

Le Special de Monte Cristo - Turkey, ham, and swiss cheese in a battered egg bread, lightly fried to a golden brown. With Blue Bayou potatoes and seasonal vegetables. $24.99

Isla-Cruces Crab Cakes - Succulent pan-seared Crab Cakes, topped with lobster beurre blanc and mango slaw. With Blue Bayou potatoes and seasonal vegetables. $34.99

Portobello Mushroom and Couscous Macque Choux - Marinated in a balsamic vinaigrette, then broiled and served with roasted corn and bell-pepper couscous and sautéed spinach. $29.99

It is VERY good and Blue Bayou is pretty famous for it, so good decision :thumbsup2

Anyone have suggestions??

I recommend the Tesoro Island Chicken. I have ordered this dish a number of times, and it never did disappoint me or my friend. For dinner I so loved as well the surf and turf.
For your birthday you may receive complementary a tasty little chocolate mousse.

~~ I love you Phil and you will forever be with me! Forever my very best and most special friend! I love you to no end. ~~

I did not like the short ribs at all......DD15 ordered them (she was 14 or 13 at the time) and she didn't like them (and the girl adores ribs) so I gave her half of my chicken and took half of her ribs, we both liked the chicken much better. I suggest the chicken for sure. :)

Thanks for the suggestions! I know my mom will definitely be ordering the chicken, and DH hates ordering chicken at restaurants (since I make it so often at home) so hopefully he'll listen when I say, it comes recommended by the DIS.

We stopped eating at Blue Bayou a few years ago because we couldn't stand the way they rush you through your meal. Hopefully things have changed.

I have never been rushed thru a meal, we travel in August so it is fairly busy. My wife likes the chicked, I like the ribs, the loin is excellent, and the Jambalaya.
Just depends on how i feel that day..Good break from the crowds and a bit of warmth.

The last time we went, we didn't feel rushed at all. We felt really comfortable and relaxed. Hopefully this doesn't happen to us in a couple weeks.

Thanks for your input Jack. I'll tell him about the strip loin :thumbsup2

I don't like ordering chicken at restaurants simply because I'm very picky about my chicken (I don't like bones and skin and the chicken at BB has both) but I enjoy this chicken very much! I also like the fried chicken at PI (which I normally don't like much at all lol) and I also like the chicken at AG.
If he's hesitant tell him to get the strip loin, it is also very good. :)

I've NEVER been rushed through a meal at BB, not once. We don't eat there every trip but we eat there often enough. :)

We like the crab cakes and the salmon. :thumbsup2

We haven never felt rushed there either. We always order a dessert or two to share. We love the creme brulee and the chocolate cake!

We did the jambalaya and the salmon in February. I liked the jambalaya, but the salmon was the stand-out entree. Really fantastic. Blue Bayou is definitely on our list for the next time we make it out west again!

I am planning to eat here for the first time in June. Is this a place I should bring my 5 year old and 1 year old sons...or should it be a "Mommy-Daddy" dinner and kids ride rides with Grandma?

I have tasted the short ribs, and I found them to be a little like pot-roast. Nothing to write home about. I think the safest bet would be a steak. The potatoes and salad were wonderful. I enjoyed my steak very much and felt I ordered right.

Our first trip DD12 was 6, we took her to BB with no problems. It's a theme park, there are plenty of kids there. You will be fine.

We've been there a couple of times & have tried the monte cristo, chicken, crab cakes, short ribs & jambalaya. Potatos are amazing, as is the gumbo. I would personally order them all again. We have never been rushed through our meal (even when evacuated & then reseated, having meal refired/served pushing all other reservations back). :) On our first trip our DD was 5 & she did very well! :thumbsup2

I am sorry that you had that unpleasant experience. I cannot say why that may have happened. What I can say is though, of all of my dining experiences at the Blue Bayou, I had never felt rushed at all, nor had any of my dining companions.

I had the salmon on my last visit. It was excellent. I'm going to try the crab cakes this time.

I've had the ribs and thought they were fantastic! I want to eat there again, but my daughter is not a fan of POTC, so we may have to put that off until we go without the kids or until she gets over her fear of the ride :/
