We ate at the Blue Bayou yesterday. When we asked about dessert selections, the boat was not given as a selection. I asked about it specifically.

Our server told us that they cannot get the sails anymore from the company that used to provide them. He said that he has heard they are looking at other places to supply them and until that is resolved, the boat is not being offered.

I specifically asked if it would be returning. He said that is the plan, as soon as they can resolve the sails issue.

They've already changed the creme brulee by removing the chocolate and passion fruit ones (my favourite bits as these were "different") and replacing it with a second vanilla one :confused3.

To now hear they've taken the cookie boat from the menu as well (even temporarily) is a real shame in my opinion...

Someone else posted about the cookie boat thing too. I'm glad to hear it's supposedly only temporary...but since so many people visit the Blue Bayou just to have dessert and enjoy the ambiance, I have to wonder if they've toned down the desserts on purpose, to make that option less appealing. :(

Drats!

The sail isn't something to eat. I suppose it is edible, but no one would actually eat the thing, it is a brick.

My son just adores the cookie and ice cream. He would much rather have the cookie and ice cream without the sail than lose the option to actually eat the cookie.

I really hope they have this resolved by December 18 for our next visit.

As to the creme brulee, I only order the thing for the passion fruit option. I wish I could just have three passion fruits. If the passion fruit is no longer offered, I won't be getting dessert. I am not a huge dessert person, but I love passion fruit, and that dessert is one of the few places to get my fix.

I was there in October, just a couple weeks ago, and nope the boat is no longer there, and the Tortuga Trio is gone also.. These were offered this past March when DH, and I went, but when I took my cousin in law, and her DBF for their first time to Blue Bayou they served her a cookie boat that was a badly shaped boat. No sais, no nothing, and after I had told her how awesome it looks that's what they gave her. I brought it to the servers attention that this was NOT what was expected nor what I have had before. He was polite as was I no sense being rude about it never helps, and he told me he told the chef that it looked bad. I am still sitting there in kind of dismay thinking why didn't you just tell me before we ordered that you guys have no sails anymore, and have yet to find another company to make them, but not once did he mention this when we ordered, or we would have just did the tortuga. The sails/treasure chest have been gone for a while now at least since July. I know the desserts that are offered are a Chocolate cake with a brownie like bottom, a reg vanilla creme brulee, during Oct it was that halloween demitese dessert like other places were serving, and there might have been one other plain thing. I got the brulee, and while it was good it was not something worth the price the tortuga was it was just a basic brulee in the little ramikin. I wanted to make sure people were aware of this, so I have been posting on the menu threads, and such about this change. All ears menu database still lists it, but it's NOT served anymore. Just wanted everyone to have a heads up.

Off hand I am thinking that why couldn't the Blue Bayou just simply make their own sails? Perhaps from hardened white chocolate or maybe even fondant? How about spun sugar? that might be pretty to see as sails. Just a few thoughts off of the top of my head as the saying goes.

We went in late Aug for my bday. I ordered 2 boats but when they came out they did not look like a boat. They didn't have a sail. I had never had one before so I didn't realize it was missing. It was still excellent.

I read about the boat and chose Blue Bayou for our trip in late December. I hope they bring it back! I think my son would love it.

Aww! I wouldn't hold your breath, unfortunately. According to posts on this board, the sail has been missing for months, so they haven't been in much rush to fix it, and now I guess rather than serve a sail-less cookie canoe, lol, they have just removed it entirely.

I know!! The heartbreak...........

We ate there in october and my boys were so dissapointed :sad2:

Same reason they (candy palace) don't even make their own fudge anymore, and other things are being made off site, and more and more will be... consistency. (I had a big chat with a castmember working there on our last trip about it) They are relying more and more on having things made for them, and so are at the mercy of the supplier. It is a real shame. :sad2:
On another note...I am really happy you get more vanilla creme brulee!! :woohoo: I always gave hubby the other ones... :thumbsup2
Imho....creme brulee is creme brulee...if you add chocolate or other flavor, then it just becomes chocolate or whatever pudding... :confused3

Oh no!!!!! DD9 will be disappointed! :( We were going to have one after her bday lunch, she chose BB and mentioned the cookie boat.....maybe I'll see about making a PS for Carnation Cafe for the Matterhorn sundae instead........

Pixie I would make alternate plans honestly, or maybe order a small cake. The cookie boat is probably not going to come back in time for your trip as it was still out just a few weeks ago, and the CM working blue bayou said they were still searching for someone to make them, so they didn't even have anyone yet. If you think she will be disppointed I certainly would make an alternate plan. The dessert selection they have as of right now really is disppointing.

I'm really surprised that they couldn't make their own sails with some white chocolate and a mold!

I still have our sail from our trip in June- it is in the plastic to go box in the back of the fridge....:( The cookie boat made the whole meal for us!

Ya, I'm going to make us a ressie at either the Carnation Cafe or the PCH Grill, for either the Matterhorn Sundae or the Kitchen Sink. :) Probably CC for the Sundae, that thing is HUGE! :)

The sail is made from hard sugar, it's not easy to make the same type of sail that they had before.

Yeah the sail is done in I believe royal icing which will harden. It's either that, or gumpaste, but I think it's Royal Icing they use. That stuff can get teeth breaking hard. I have the treasure chest in a sealed container in my curio cabinet. I also have a castle they made out of the same stuff as the sails that was on top of our 2 tier aniversary cake. That cake was amazing. They painted on fodant by hand on the top tier right below the castle a pic of the prince fixing to kiss, and wake up snow white, the thing is it LIT UP I mean they had this GORGEOUS 2 tier cake at a price you CANNOT BEAT ANYWHERE that had a hand painted pic that would alternate color changes, and the sugar castle on top. People were staring at this creation we ordered from GCH, and picked it up. it was SUPER heavy.

ooh that cake sounds absolutely gorgeous!! How wonderful! :) Do you have pictures? :)

I do, but for the life of me I have NO idea how to post a pic. I always cut, and paste, and I am not sure you can here on the boards, and I am photobucket dumb honestly I can't figure it out I know I know whats wrong with me. I have 2 weeks till I leave, and I am highly contemplating ordering a cake either themed ariel under the sea, Or something like a winter wonderland using cinderella, sleeping beauty, and belle as the focal points. I gotta make my mind up soon as I usually order from the grand. I have never ordered from the new bakery they just got. HELP!!!!! LOL. I usually order mickey krispie chocolate dipper ear treats, or tuxedo strawberries, and a pot of hot chocolate. 2 weeks to go, and I need to decide soon as it's a busy time for them, and I am cutting it close HELP!!!!!!:scared1:
