Hi All Disneygoers,

We are staying at BLT in 16days, YEAH!!!! We are renting points from a DVC Member and wonder if we will have access to the Top of the World Lounge? If we do, my next question is: We have friends staying at The Dolphin will they have access as well if accompanied by us?

Thank you in advance for any input:lovestruc

Yes, you will have access to the lounge and can bring friends up with you as long as everyone is together at the same time.

It depends on who is checking ID's and what is printed on your KTTW card, "door key". If your key has "DVC Member" printed on it, then you can go up.

We have had hosts that check only one card and we have had hosts that check each persons card.

We have been renting from the same DVC member for years and our card has always said DVC member, so I guess with a little trust and some pixie dust I will hope for the best, lol.

I spent 4 nights going up to the lounge over Labor Day weekend and brought friends with me twice (both times, locals, who did not even have a KTTW card of their own). If they'd asked to check each person's card it might have been a problem.

Excellent!!!! I will follow up and let you know how our scenario played out but I feel pretty good about being able to get everyone up. And if not, oh well we tried:goodvibes

when we were there they asked for our room key plus DVC card but BLT had just opened within a month or so at that point.

Yes, kids are welcome (ours enjoyed it a great deal).

Thanks....I booked BLT thinking I would be there...(totw) for her birthday....glad to hear kids are allowed....got scared for a minute it was just a bar.....not that there is anything wrong with that...lol....

The posted rules are DVC members and their guests staying with them at BLT can go up to the Top of the World Lounge. Since you are not a member, you might not be allowed up. And since your friends are not staying at BLT with a member, they might not be allowed up either. Whenever you pay a member for a reservation, you are not considered a guest of that member.

So don't be disappointed if none of you can go up.

You can always watch the fireworks from the bridge or the rooftop patio off the fourth floor at CR.

When I was there in May the CM at the podium asked for my KTTW card AND my Blue Member Card. I guess it depends on who's working.

Wow, it sounds like it's just going to depend on whether or not you are lucky enough to get the right Disney Cast Member. I was optomistic but now not so much:sad2:

When we were there last month, they checked only my room key. I had my blue member card with me, just in case. They never asked for anyone else's room key.
But.....the 'rules' are still in place. DVC members, staying on points at BLT, are the only ones allowed up there...with any guests who may be staying with them, in their villa. So....long story short? You will most likely be able to go up and get in with no issue. But there is always an off chance that you will get a CM who is sticking to the written rule. It would be nice if there were consistancy though.

The odds are on the side of optomism. I happen to personally know HUNDREDS of families who stayed at BLT as guests of a member. All they had was a KTTW card with 'DVC Member' noted on the card. Not one of these families was ever denied access to the lounge.

The lounge and viewing area are NEVER busy and my assumption is that the department that is responsible for the lounge (Operations) will soon remove the access restrictions currently in place in order to increase their revenues from the sale of food and beverage.

I beleive that it was also mentioned at the annual member's meeting, last year, that restrictions might be reduced in order to open it up to more patrons (the discussion started as members complained about having to go down to the desk in the lobby to gain access).

My understanding is DVC can only rent out, for points, the %age of rooms sold into DVC inventory of that particular hotel and HAS TO rent out for cash the balance. As/when BLT sells out completely, IMHO the occupancy levels of the TOTWL should increase. If members start getting turned away ( Food and wine and early Dec are busy member times. we are also in Mickey's not so scarey :scared1:.... and Mickey's very merry Xmas party season :santa: , where members may not want to spring for the special tickets, but want to watch the special event fireworks) and complain that there are ""non member abuses" going on, I think the policing will have to improve. I'll guarantee you those members "bending the rules" now ,will be the ones howling the loudest when they get turned away  :rotfl:

With conversations like this it may prompt Disney ( under pressure from BLT members concerned they will be denied legitimate access because there are guests there illegitimately) to better police access. You can always "legitimize" your guests if you have say a studio with only 2 of you by registering them as the other 2 people "staying" in your room. Even justify it as " well they may stay in the room if they have a couple of cocktails :woohoo: too many and I don't want them to have to drive home" .

My hope is that before they open it up to "all and sundry" it opens up to DVC members, staying at other DVC resorts on their points, first to see if that brings in enough traffic to support it. It is meant to be a "MEMBERS LOUNGE" after all.

When we were there thay asked for the KTTW card and blue member card. I agree it depends on who is working the podium.

We went up several times the week following Easter Sunday and all they asked for was our KTTW card. Not even sure we had blue cards with us. We did invite my brother and his family up one night but we thought is was allowed. I didn't know they had to be guests staying with you. It wasn't busy (and I'm not using it as an excuse) so I would think they would want the business. Hopefully they open it up to all DVC members using points before the general public.
