BLT - Top of the World - Rented Points

It really depends on the CM at the check-in podium. We went with a group of 8 last year, and he just wanted to see one membership card even though we were on multiple reservations with multiple membership cards.

But if you take the trip over to BLT and have the CM who tells you anyone on your reservation only, you have wasted the trip.

My husband and I were staying at VWL last year and went over just to see the "Top of the world". We never found out how to get up there. We got in the elevator and I think we needed a special room key to go any higher or something. We couldn't find any "lobby" so we could ask someone about it. So, we left. You are saying that because we are DVC owners we can access it anytime? But, how do you do it? :confused3

We stopped by the Lounge a few weeks ago for drinks and snacks. We had our MB's on so no KTTW cards and we barely flashed the cast member my DVC card and we were on our way.

With the MB's on, he must have assumed we were staying on property(we were at the GF, but who's to say we were). THe last time we went, the cast member compared our KTTW card to my DVC member card to make sure the names were the same and that we were staying on property for those dates.

There is a podium in the lobby (ground floor near front entrance of BLT) that will be staffed beginning at 6 PM. You check-in at the podium and then a CM will use their card to send the elevator up to the 16th floor.

So, we would go down to the lobby and let the CM know we want to visit TTOTW and they will use their card to send elevator? We are going to VWL again in May and would really like to bring our kids up to see it. Would that be allowed?

Yes, that is how it works. And, yes, kids are welcome to visit the lounge.

I know that kids are allowed, but is it common to have smaller kids around up there? We will have some park free days on our upcoming trip and were thinking of going up to TotWL since we have never been up there. Our kids will be about 6 and 3 at the time so we were worried they may be a bit too small to be up there. They are usually well behaved, but we don't want to have the only kids up there.

There are children up in the lounge. There are more children with families outside that come just before the fireworks. Either way, there are children.

We would most likely be around there closer to fireworks time I would imagine. Thanks for the quick response.

My party of 6 went up about a month ago, I was asked to scan my magic band, no member card needed. Great place to escape the crowds after a long at the MK!

It doesn't open for the evening until around 5:30 or 6PM. And it is basically a lounge, with nothing for small children to do. So if you plan to see the fireworks from the lounge, come right before Wishes starts.

IMO, the fireworks view from the HUGE deck area outside of the lounge is way better than from inside it. That's where most of the people go and there are always children there. You don't have to go into the lounge to get to the deck.

There's a solid safety wall about 4-5 ft tall around the edge, but you will be looking up to see the fireworks, so no need to stand up near it - you can stand back and have a great view. It's a very wide area. The WISHES music is piped in.

Come about 20 minutes ahead to make sure you can get up the elevator before the show starts.

Thanks for the advice! Having never been up there I didn't know you didn't have to go into the lounge to get to the deck. Is that something you have to tell the cast member at the elevator before you go up? I'm sure having two little ones that they don't care about going into the lounge anyway so that may be a better option. We ate at California Grill a couple years ago and I assumed it was similar to that where you had to go through the restaurant in order to get out to the deck.

No. You just tell the CM that you want to go up to see the fireworks, or to the 16th floor or to the TOTWL - he or she will know and they don't care if you are going to the actual lounge or not. They just check your DVC membership card and escort you to the elevator. They need to use their card to get the 16th floor elevator button to work.

Once you are off the elevators, you go to the hallway, turn right and it's a 1 minute walk. You'll see the doors to the lounge and the entrance (no door) to the deck (on your right). Just follow the people. It's easy. Really. :)

Sounds easy enough. Maybe we will check it out. Thanks a lot for the tips.:)

I have had my kids there a few times - my oldest is 7 now...

We often go up an hour before wishes and get some adult beverages, some Shirley temples for the kids, and desert! It's a great late night vacation treat! We then watch Wishes outside and it's great fun! We like to head outside before too many others to so we can get a bench spot for our kids to stand on so they can see...

sounds like a nice place to see the fireworks, I will try to check it out when i'm their in a few weeks. Thanks for the info.

We stayed on a relatives points (he was not on the reservation or with us at all) and we were not asked for any ID.
