Blt studio!!! The good the bad and the ugly

the door is the only big ugly that I know.

also the bathroom is closest to the outside door. so again it would help if you could lock it.

definitely had to get use to the sink being in the kitchen - although the other studios (except OKW) are similar - they just tighten (really tighten) the space between them.

it has a hair dryer (took it to the bedroom area so could sit and watch tv - while drying)

it has a toaster, microwave, coffee maker (think they were above the kitchen sink).

so far have really enjoyed my stays at BLT. finally staying for more than a day this March.

what I loved - some of the views are pretty wonderfully, being able to easy walk over to the CR and its food court (not to mention their gift stores), the monrail for Epcot is fun and easy. so far have only walked over and back to BLT. One reason for walking over the monrail. to walk you are on level ground mostly. to take the monrail back you have to walk up a hill. this is a hill and at my age that makes it the harder way. walking is easier.

the views from top of the world - of it is pretty wonderfully. definitely go up there is you can manage it. even if you have a view of the MK from your studio - go anyway. you can meet others DVC members who are just as happy as you to be at such a wonderful place.

love easy access to Chef Mickeys, plus all the monrail hotel restuarants - Kona Cafe is still a favorite - it is great to just walk over to CR and jump on the monrail to get to Polyn.

from the other DVC resorts you would need to take the bus to the Mk then transfer to the monrail to get to Kona Cafe for a meal. or drive to the Polyn if the security guards will allow you to enter. otherwise you park in the TTC parking lot and take the monrail. (or walk over)

did not think would enjoy the pool - but to my surprise loved it. It is not deep - it is well designed. also remember the pool at CR is an easy walk. just be sure to remember that you need to take your keys everytime you (or anyone) walks out the room.

you can't get back into the resort (even from the pools)without your keys.

As others have mentioned the door opens pretty easily but as long as no one hits it you should be ok. I just prefer the comfort of being able to lock the bathroom door which is why for me it is a "bad".

The reason I also put it as ugly..at the risk of sounding crude, let's just say the fan in the bathroom is not very effective. We actually opted to use the public bathroom in BLT at times vs. the one in the room so we could have some private bathroom time.

**edited to add: This might be accurate for all DVC studios but we've only stayed in a studio at BLT so can only share my opinion based on that***

all I want is a gasket and a latch. I like the architecture. Figure it out, DVC! :)

We just stayed at BLT in a studio with 4 ( 2a,2k- 8&5) and thought it was fine. With the sofa bed out it was a little tight but we would just fold it up in the morning ( very easy).

The bathroom door did not bug us. Since it is a small room, you can tell that someone is missing - in the bathroom - do not go in.

The kitchen and bathroom sink in the same area is a little wierd, but it worked fine. There is plenty of storage.

Overall we really liked it.

We had a handicapped room at Kidani in November that had a sliding bathroom door. I kept banging my fingers in the door when I closed it. I'm sure there was an indentation thingy to hold onto the close it, but I kept forgetting. It was a pain (literally!!) and I bet little one's would be more likely to hurt themselves also. I do not want to get a sliding door again and that was one reason we did not go for BLT on our next trip.

Well, I off to pack for Vero Beach.

We liked many things about the resort; we've long been CR fans so we were eager to see the CR DVC.

The sliding bathroom door did not bother us; we've seen similiar designs outside WDW (Mohegan Sun in Connecticut for one).

We were not thrilled with the bathroom sink location. The bathroom was a decent size and it seemed to me that they could have designed it to fit a sink as well. But we liked the galley kitchen design.

We loved the location and we had a great view; we were able to see the Water Parade easily.

For four adults (w/1 tween, 1 teen), it was a little crowded. But we only stayed 2 nights, so it was doable. However, I was a bit disappointed with the size.

We are contemplating staying at a one-bedroom BLT unit soon. We loved the resort. :)

when we did online check-in that we would be out of the room by 9:00 a.m. and literally at 9:02 a.m. Mousekeeping was at our door trying to get in there and get it ready for the next guests. :goodvibes

We listed 11:00 at a different resort, and they were still there at 9:02!

Pros:
There is lots of places in the kitchen/sink area to put things.
The walk to quick service.
The iHome is a nice touch.
The TV is nice.
Safe is big enough for a laptop.
Bedding
Location, Location, Location
Walk to MK.
SHORT walk to car.
Awesome view of the MK while you wait for the elevator.
Internet
Short walk to pool.

Cons:
When it rains the bridge gest SOAKED.
No place to put the cushions from the pull out.
The lock on the sliding door to the verandah.
Bathroom is nicer at AKL, but livable.
One sink :(

BTW, when most people think of a sliding door, they may think about a pocket door that slides into the wall. At BLT this is not the case. First think of a door frame without a door mounted on it. Then think of a panel that slides on a track in front of the door frame. The door just hangs in front of the opening rather than truly closing. There are gaps so you might inadvertently see into room, as well as, noises and smells that come out.

Is it livable? Yes, for the most part, but they should've done a true pocket door.

This may sound odd, but does anyone have a picture of the infamous sliding door? I just can't seem to picture it in my mind! ;)

Oh... I do think I found a video of it on YouTube!

It's the type of door that is most commonly found on barns. :lmao: Cows and horses are not quite so modest. :rolleyes1

Really though - it is actually called a barn door as opposed to the pocket door that works better for a bathroom IMO. I consider it a trendy style rather than practical.

Somehow, someway, it worked just fine at GCV. Go figure.

Do you mean the pocket door? That's what was in the GCV studio. I'd have to go back to my pictures of the model to see if that is also what is in the 1BR's but I'm pretty sure it is. I agree that pocket doors work great - they are a space saver and can be closed and locked as well. That isn't what was used at BLT though.

Was it a pocket door? We only stayed one night in a GCV studio (lockoff) and I thought the slider part was on the outside of the doorframe. I took some pictures but they were of the toilet paper in the bathroom, LOL...thought it was neat that they had a GCV cover over the spare roll of paper on top of the toilet. Well, anyway, sorry for the misinformation. Too bad they didn't copy the design at BLT because the doors at GCV work just fine.

With all the pictures I take I still missed a good one of the door at BLT but I did take one of the GCV Studio. :thumbsup2 I also missed a picture of the GCV cover on the toilet paper! lol

We dont use studios, but if we did.

Alright...so I need a blue rain barrel, some wood, a latch and some kind of roll of vinyl. I wonder what the front desk is gonna say next week when I show up with that. ;)
Would a door stop wedged sideways underneath prevent the door from sliding back? I'll have to see.

Just get you one of these and paint OCCUPIED on it, and you will be all set.

Pocket doors slide into the empty space between two walls. http://www.finishedwork.biz/photogallery/web pocket door1.jpg

The slider door, as stated similar to barn slider doors, http://www.bolyardlumber.com/catalog/BVHilton-TRUdblSlide39293126-full.jpg

They obviously did not make the slider door large enough to cover all of the opening to the bathroom. If they had even if it was not snug to the wall, there would have been nothing to see but wall.

Now this is a pocket door!

Definitely call ahead for services if you need anything. Stayed twice and they are not very quick to respond. Allow at least 20 min

I like the round cabana pool at the Contemporary and there is a poolside bar a d grill

The elevator lady can be a little annoying after a while.
