When doing the online check in for BLT we had the choice of balcony or near the skyway bridge. What is the difference? Don't all of the rooms have a balcony?

Thanks for your help! We're very excited to be staying here for the first time.

The balcony request makes no sense. If it was for a Standard View, I could see it as some of those are on the 1st floor. Near Skyway Bridge would put you closer to the Contemporary Tower and away from the MK.

That's what I thought about the balcony view as well. I just called both Member Services and the resort itself and no one knew what the balcony option was all about. It is one of the choices on the online check in though.

I'm sure we'll have a great room anyhow!
Thanks for the help.. :)

The on-line request box should be ignored; any requests should go through MS. What you are seeing is something created for cash guests for whom there are limited room categories and thus requesting balcony is a request for above ground floor. The skyway bridge is on the fifth floor on the south wing of the building and takes you to Contemporary. Not sure what room you would get if you request near it.

Online check in is a software program that was made for Disney cash guests booking regular rooms. DVC who has a limited budget for software, uses it for us. That's why sometimes the descriptions, choices or links don't always work.

I've seen a couple posts where Boardwalk Inn has the option of a canal view or boardwalk view in online check-in for standard view. The canal is nowhere near the Inn, it's on the Villa side. And you can't get a boardwalk view with standard. So it's not just DVC that's wacky.

Just did my online check-in for BLT--just out of curiousity I looked at the "Room Request" section (even though it doesn't apply to DVC reservations). The actual choices are "Lower Floor" room or "near Skyway Bridge" which would make more sense than "balcony".

Room requests do apply to DVC reservations. I've used them before at other resorts and gotten my requests.

Yes, all of the rooms have balconies. I was just there and noticed the sofa sleeper in the studio was sitting on those plastic moving men disks. At first I thought it was that way, so it would be easier to move for cleaning. :confused3
After some very serious thought I wondered if some families with small children might not want a balcony. So, here is me really stretching my imagination!!!!:stir:
If a guest requests no balcony, the room may be set up with the drapes partially closed, so it llooks like a window, and the sofa sleeper moved in front of the balcony doors. It would block access for small children to the balcony!!!!!:hippie:

I'd be more apt to think it would be a patio versus a balcony except for the fact the original poster had a Theme Park View and all of those rooms are above the 1st floor. I think drusba is correct that it's just a standard list for all rooms.

The requests may apply for DVC reservations but they are there for Disney cash reservations.

DVC uses the Disney cash software and database for online check in. DVC knows that the requests don't always match locations a DVC resort but according to management, their business partner will not add DVC specific requests because it will confuse the cash guests.
