Hello all,

We are planning an add-on of 100 points. We were all set to buy at the Polynesian, but after considering some of the issues, we are not sure anymore. We had an awesome stay at GFV last May in a 1 bedroom, and the family loves BLT, where we have stayed in a 1 bedroom several times.

We are still planning to go direct through Disney, but I am really having trouble deciding which resort. Any thoughts? Which would you choose and why?

Thanks so much!

I would buy at your favorite resort taking into consideration the size and category of the rooms, location, room and resort amenities and sales and dues cost.

For us it would be VGF which we bought as soon as it opened. No comparison, not even close.

(FYI we also own BLT but never stay there anymore).

I just can't come up with a good reason to buy BLT direct from DVC since you could get 35 to 40% more points for the same price resale.

So if direct it is I'd go with whichever resort is more appealing between VGF and PVB. I think Poly will be much easier to get in to but if paying that amount direct you ought to buy the one you most want to stay at.

But if that means BLT I'd buy it but resale.

We own at BLT and have stayed at GF. Love them both but the BLT benefits in terms of transportation, TOW lounge, and overall buzz is what leans me to BLT.

We bought BLT resale in summer of 2013 - got a fully loaded 160 point contract (including 160 banked points) for $75 a point. How we got through ROFR is still beyond me....

Buy 100 resale - pay $100 a point (seems to be going rate) and use that money to buy tickets, airfare, heck go on a Disney cruise.

We bought BLT and HHI both on resale and it's the only way to add on.

If you won't consider BLT resale. I would by VGF. VGF is a better resort IMO than the Ploy, has lower annual dues and has a greater selection of room choices.

Another vote for BLT resale - more points for a given amount of money, fewer points needed per night for your room, so your money goes farther. Also, being able to walk to MK instead of waiting for monorail or boat is a major advantage IMO.

I agree, I would go with resale BLT, and you could possibly get a contract for 160 points resale (at about $100/pt) for the same price you would pay direct through Disney. I think 100 points does not go far at BLT unless you go only a few nights a year. With 160 you would have enough points to stay every other year and get a 1 BR for a week (except peak demand times). Of course this would mean about $300 a year additional management fees, which may be a deal breaker budget wise. Also BLT direct prices are now $170 apparently according to DVC news?!

BLT resale contracts are getting scarce however and prices have been rising.

If you do buy direct from what I have read the really small contracts go much faster so you may want to break up your 100 point purchase into 2 or 4 contracts (I think there is a 25 pt min since you are an existing member).

I'm surprising myself a bit by saying this ... but my vote would also be BLT RESALE.

(I bought BLT direct in 2010 when the premium over resale wasn't too major. I added-on BLT directi in early 2012 at a big premium over resale, but did get two small contracts in the UY I wanted with no wait.)

IF I ever add-on again to BLT, it will be resale ... direct is just too costly for points that would only be used to supplement villa stays! (I already have direct points should I ever want to use a restricted option.)

If you are okay in a studio, I would vote Poly for the resort theme, pools, and better transportation. If you want a 1 bedroom, I guess I would say BLT resale but BLT and VGF have been pretty easy to get a 7 months, so I am not sure you really need home resort priority for that.

I thought VGF owners were having some difficulty ay 11 months. Must be studios.

So far the only time it is tough right at 11 month is the 1st 3 weeks of December for studios. October to the end of November can be booked at the 11 month mark for studios without much trouble, but I wouldn't wait to many days past the 11 month mark. 1 and 2 bedrooms are not a problem at all most of the year due to the high point cost. My opinion has evolved since buying and staying at VGF. I believe it is easily the most luxurious property with beautiful grounds, great dining options and service. However, I exclusively use my VGF points for studios, than split stay every time and use my BWV points for 1 bedrooms. Point management is very important.

I own at VGF and have several friends that also own at VGF and yes, this has been a problem. As Johnny D stated the first 3 weeks are proving to be quite tough. It is a very popular time to visit (as most know) and with the low points and potentially the fixed weeks, studios are selling out on the opening of the 11th month in this time period.

I have to disagree with you a bit here Johnny D. Although studios are selling out, from my experience with booking at the VGF, I have found that although nights are not necessarily selling out for a stretch of dates, inside the 7th month, a stretch of nights can have nights missing if you are searching for particular travel dates. This even happened to me last year when booking a 1 bdrm in mid-January. The day the 7th month opened nights I needed at this time were gone and I had to move to plan "B" So, from my limited experience (being that the resort has not been open that long) if you have little flexibility I am still finding that nights in certain dates can be gone in all room categories.

To the OP. IMO and based on what I wrote above -- If you are only adding on 100 points, my advice would be to skip adding on at VGF right now, unless you would be willing to consider a fixed week, or you know that you can plan right at the 11 month mark. I have several friends that own 100 points or under at the VGF and they are very frustrated right now with booking at the VGF. Several of them are thinking about selling their VGF points. But, my advice to them is let the dust settle. There just isn't enough history for booking at the VGF right now IMO to know in the long run how the booking window will change or stay the same. Also, maybe the opening of PBV will change the reservation landscape too.

If you really want to add-on, I would say add on at BLT or go with a fixed week direct from at PVB. But, of course the fixed week option doesn't allow you to break the contract us into more than one contract (if that is a concern to you) so, only you can weigh that and its importance to you. BLT and PVB have a lot more studios and I think your odds of getting one at the time you want will be very good. VGF, might just be frustrating to you.

I'm surprised that you aren't considering a resale contract. That could be a whole other thread in itself, but before you rule out a resale contract, I would think long an hard about how much you would really use the benefits that buying direct gives you. Will 100 points make that much of a difference when trying to use those benefits? Don't get me wrong, I bought the vast majority of my points direct, and see advantages there too, but I have also bought resale and I'm very happy with those contracts too.

Tough call. Good luck with your decision!

One more comment I thought of OP. For what it is worth -- I have friends that bought at VGF and have now added on at PVB and when they added on they added on a fixed week at PVB because of all the difficulty of booking studios at VGF.

The way they see it, they would rather have a week fixed that they know they won't have to "jockey" for and if they don't want it, they can either rent it or turn those points back into "regular" points and book a different week or cancel the fixed week and bank the points.

Just more to think about. Hope my comments were helpful.
