So I made a reservation in December for my parents to join DH, DD (17 months) and myself for our regular Sept trip to Disney. My parents haven't been to Disney since my brother and I were in HS (over 10 years ago). We went last year with DD and had a blast and know she will enjoy it even more this year! Problem is my dad is on dialysis. The good news is we got word this week that he will be getting a kidney transplant in less than 2 weeks! Bad part is that he won't be able to travel until almost the end of the year due to a low immune system with the new kidney. My parents still want us to go. I booked SSR because my parents last vacation was at the Disney Institute and "it was the best vacation of my life" so I wanted to show them thet new resort. I've never been either.

SO now that they aren't coming, I called and they have BLT available. It's alittle modern from the photos than I'm used to but apparently it's a great experience from the reviews I'm reading. It is only $400 more than our SSR reservation. Lake view of course. But I like the idea of the monorail for the little one instead of a bus. Would make it easier. But wondering if the footbridge will make the travel time around the same.

What would you do? Looking at reviews I'm leaning towards BLT...

BLT for an adults trip or staying on disney 90% of the time, SSR for young family's or going off property alot ( car parking is much more convenient)

If you plan to visit MK a lot during your trip, you can not beat the convenience of being at BLT. We stayed at CR for years, and with young children it is nice at the end of the night to hop on the monorail and be back to our room in less than 10 minutes (BLT/CR is the first monorail stop on the way from MK).

You can even use the monorail to get to Epcot by transferring at TTC. Much easier, IMO, than a bus with a toddler and a stroller.

However, I will admit that the feel is more hotel style and not as themed as other places. I have not stayed at SSR but driven through it. It looks beautiful and will definitely be a different type of vacation than BLT. They just redid the pool at the CR (which you can use as a BLT guest) to include a kid's play area and it looked very nice.

Good luck!!!

I think I would go for BLT for this trip and save SSR for when your dad is able to travel with you.

Good luck and I hope your dad's transplant goes well.

Great choice! Have a wonderful time and I wish your father a speedy and healthy recovery.

My father is getting ready to have his kidney removed in the upcoming weeks due to cancer, and he lost his other kidney 40 years ago due to complications from kidney stones.

CONGRATS ON THE TRANSPLANT!!!!! I pray for his recovery to be speedy!

As for your original question, I think you'll be really pleased with BLT. Not that I've ever been, but you can't beat the location with a little one in a stroller!
