We are going to be staying at BLT
Can we pool hop to other resorts via monorail??
If so which resort has the best pool for kids and pool bar for Mom and dad?

If you are a member staying on points at a DVC resort, you are eligible to pool hop to any pool at WDW operated resorts (not including Swan/Dolphin) except for the YC/BC/BCV pools, AKV/AKL pools and your own BLT pool. If pool hopping is not discontinued completely or blacked out for the holiday period.

The pool area at the Grand Floridian is excellent. They have a main (original) pool with a bar and snack area. They also have a fun pool with a water slide. Have always been able to find plenty of chairs, and a friendly staff. There is also a very nice shower area near the slide pool if you want to change without having to go back to the room. My girls (11, 11, & 8) love this pool area and always have a great time. They also enjoy the pool at the Contemporary. Also a bar, snack area. DJ at times with trivia questions and usually a good playlist. The Contemporary also has a small beach area with soft white sand but no swimming at this beach. Poly is our least favorite these days. Small pool and usually crowded. Nice beach though. This used to be one of our favorites in years gone by but it has slipped down the list. Have fun ... be spontaneous ....

I 2nd the Poly....AND you can go into Captain Hooks for a Dole Whip!!! :D

Also, a quick boat ride from the Contemporary is Wilderness Lodge....their pool is awesome! I would highly recommend the short boat trip over to their pool.

Is pool hopping always ok at grand floridian?

There are always blackout dates in place for pool hopping- in the Disney Files that was just sent out the mention the 2 weeks around Easter (might have gone to the 18th of April actually), memorial day weekend, the week including the fourth of July and a few other dates before the end of the fall.

Also you are always supposed to call the resort (or check in when you get there) and they can say no anytime their pool is too crowded.

If you are not staying at that resort, the lifeguard can ask you to leave at any time, especially if they think the pool is too crowded.

So as a non-member who has no points, there is no pool hopping? We are planning to camp at FW, but I thought we might be able to pool-hop at the other resorts.

Nope, it's not allowed. The only people who get to poolhop, as already noted, are DVC members, staying on DVC points. Even if you own DVC you can't poolhop if you are staying at Pop. You have to be staying on your points.

Those who are staying at the other resorts are paying a premium price for those 'nicer' pools. It truly isn't fair for those not entitled to head to other pools and use them...makes for some crowded pools.

I own DVC but have yet to poolhop. I just don't see the point. Especially to the Polynesian. When we stayed there, the pool got badly overcrowded...we ended up just using the quiet pool.

:thumbsup2 This is exactly what I was going to say!

This is correct. Pool hopping is only extended to DVC members staying at a DVC resort using their membership. Basically, your room key has to say "DVC Member" on it.

I realize that when you are a DVC memeber you are entitiled to some additional perks, however I find the pool hopping rule should not be allowed. The reason I did not choose to stay at the POLY in a few weeks is because I thought the pool would be overly crowded due to the upcoming spring break season. Most pools at every resort have a distinct flair to them and usually are pretty nice, stay at your own resort with your own pool. And I have read on here that there are rules against pool hopping at certain times of the year, BUT unfortunately there are those who will not follow by those guidelines. My interpretation is if someone is paying the price to stay at the POLY, or frankly anyother resort then it should be guests only in the pool. They need to check for ID's like at BC/YC.

It's dangerous staying at BLT. :lmao: Every time you ride the monorail back from Epcot, you have to go past the Poly. It too easy to hop off and get a Dole Whip.

If the pool is crowded, the DVC member may also be asked to leave. It's only if the pool is not that crowded. They are supposed to ask permission to swim even if they are a DVC member staying on points at a DVC resort. Plus during holiday periods, they are not permitted to pool hop.

As mentioned, pool hopping is not allowed to DVC members during blackout dates that include the popular easter weeks. Pool hopping is also not allowed if the resort determines their pool is too full.

I think the pool hopping started when DVC was much smaller and OKW was the only DVC resort (OKW's main pool did not have a slide for the first several years) Pool Hopping is mostly a perk DVC negotiated with Disney with little cost. The pool hopping "perk" keeps getting more and more restricted YC/BC/V, AKV, BLT... I think we do rationally wonder when/if pool hopping disapears as a perk.

Of course if you really want to get into a lengthy and heated arguement, start talking about the FW guests that hop to the WL pools, or even non WDW guests that go to a WDW pool for the day...

I do think better enforcement of existing rules might give you a better pool experience than adding additional rules/restrictions. What if all pools used the BCV room key/wrist band restrictions.....
