We are looking to stay at BLT next year to see my son and his high school band march in the Magic Kingdom. We will go to Magic Kingdom for one day but for the rest of the trip we will not go to the parks but do some other activities. We were thinking about a Luau at the Polynesian but need some other suggestions. We want to stay at BLT so we can take advantage of activities that can be reached by taking the Monorail.

You can spend a day at Epcot. There is a monorail from BLT that goes to the Transportation and Ticket Center, and there you change to a monorail that goes directly to Epcot. Very convenient, and Epcot is wonderful. I would also suggest you consider going to some of the activities at Fort Wilderness, such as the Hoop De Doo Review. There is a boat directly from the dock at the Contemporary that goes there.

We just returned from a stay at BLT and, upon checkin, we were given a list of various activities going on around the Contemporary and BLT (movies, dances, marshmellow roasts, etc.). Also, because BLT is within walking distance of all of the resort busses from MK, you can always hop on one of the resort busses and go explore another resort. And, for us at least, dining is a huge part of the Disney vacation experience, and there are a lot of wonderful resort restaurants that you can dine in without needing a park ticket. And, there's always just relaxing and swimming at BLT. Happy planning!

There's water activities (para-sailing, fishing, boat rentals, water skiing, etc) on the lakes. BLT also has a short boat ride to activities at WL and Fort Wilderness (lots to do here).

BLT/Contemporary has boccie ball, shuffle board, tennis, ping pong, volley ball, and community hall has various activities. If you're DVC members, you may also be able to pool hop to Poly, GF, and WL.

Many people like to go to Poly beach and watch the fireworks.

We like to ride the monorail to Epcot at night because the monorail travels into the park with it all lit up. However, it could be torture to ride the monorail through part of Epcot and not go in.

Sorry no suggestions but performing at Disney, how wonderful is this! How absolutely exciting! Congrats!

There's this Tour at Fort Wilderness Campground which is only a ferry ride away:

Wilderness Back Trail Adventures offer tours of the stunning surroundings of Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort on a Segway X2 Personal Transporter.

I would think a teenager would love this, what and I saying, I know lots of adults that would enjoy it.

Does anyone know if DVC members get a discount on this tour?

Congrats on your son's band marching at MK!

good luck getting BLT - it is fast selling out.

there is a community hall at BLT - think they call it an activity center - but it has some games - gameboy (I think) and Wii. plus a bunch of other stuff.

just depends upon what you want to do.

I just wanted to clarify that the Resort Monorail actually leaves from the Contemporary and not from Bay Lake Tower. So the OP would need to walk on the skybridge from Bay Lake Tower that connects to the 4th floor of the Contemporary Tower and go to their Monorail station.
