Sorry, another planning question for grand gathering trip in 2011. We have a party of 11 and I am deciding between separate 2 brm villas and a grand villa. Points wise, with banking and borrowing we should be able to either do the LV for the grand villa or MK view for the separate villas. We stayed in a MK view last month and I loved it. Seeing the MK, watching the monorail etc, I felt apart of everything going on even when just relaxing in the room. And I think our other family members may love the view of the castle and being able to watch the fireworks at night from the room. BUT on the otherhand I like the idea of all being together in the same room, figure this may be a unique opportunity to stay in a GV, and with the 2 story windows it seems like the lake view would be really beautiful as well. Any thoughts?

I think 11 people in a grand villa is going to be crowded, you'll have 1 king bed and 4 queen beds and a pullout sofa. With two 2 bedrooms you actually have capacity for 18, 2 kings, 4 queens and 2 pullout sofas.

Have you thought about where everyone will sleep? It sleeps your whole group but you'll be putting two couples together in the bedrooms. I hope they are all friendly. The 2 2bd will give you an extra bedroom, and probably less points. But then again, the large living room of the 3 bd will be nice.

After experiencing the worst MK View 19K can buy I would never book a MK View room again. I would go with a GV especially on a special trip.

Would you all stay in a house together? I agree that the GV would be pretty special but it depends on the group and how well you get along or how easy everyone is to get along with!

I was looking at GV layouts the other night and both BLT and AKV Kidani have 2 sleeper sofa's so there is a bit more flexibility in sleeping arrangements than other GV's. Both the extra sleepers are upstairs in a sitting area between the two bedrooms. At BLT you would have 1 king, 4 queens, 1 queen sleeper and 1 full sleeper.

Not good to hear about the MK view. Where was it located and what size accommodations? On a lower floor?

I would say book 2 rooms for the additional space. I will never book anything but a MK view room, so that would be my choice. Either way, I think everyone will LOVE it! Enjoy!

Hi everyone, thanks for all the insight. Fortunately our group does get along well and have traveled together in the past successfully. It is myself, DH and our 2 children, my parents and my 2 brothers, and my husband's parents and his sister. I was thinking my family of 4 could sleep in one upstairs bedroom, my parents/brothers could sleep in the other upstairs bedroom, my inlaws could sleep in the king bed downstairs, and my sister in law would sleep on the pull out double sleeper in the loft. That way we could preserve the living room, and no one would need to sleep in the common area there. Also my brothers and sister in law may only be there for a few day segment of the trip. So, I am trying to weigh the pros of the uniqueness and sure higher floor of the lake view grand villa vs the magic of having the monorail and Castle right outside our window with the 2 bedrooms MK view option. I know I am probably overthinking this all, we are so lucky to even have the opportunity to be having this family trip, but our parents have done so many wonderful things for us over the years, that I want to make this vacation as special and memorable as I can for everyone. Now I just have to hurry up and wait until 2011 to make it happen.:)

We stayed in a GV over Christmas. There were 11 of us and it worked out well. Downstairs is a queen sleeper sofa and upstairs in the commom area there is a sleeper sofa, full size I think. The extra bathroom downstairs was nice for the person who sleeps on the downstairs sofa bed. We had 9 adults, a toddler and an infant so that may have helped with our sleeping arrangements. We did not have a MK view, but did have a nice view of Bay Lake. We used the observation deck at night to watch the fireworks. It was a very nice "family" experience.

I believe that the Mk views start on the 5th floor. you may not have a mot of choice in floors if you need 2- 2bedrooms near each other (which is not gaurenteed) and sometimes near each other can be above each other a couple of floors. With the gv you are gaurenteed a top floor.

The only piece I might consider is that the the 2 bedrooms give you flexibility if something happens and some of your party has to cancel out.

If that happens, would you still want to be in the grand villa? If so, than I say go with that.

Good luck!

These are both very good points, IMHO.

I will say that we experience hard feelings by having a 2 bedroom and a studio. The plan was for everone to use the kitchen and laundry in the 2 bedroom. Low and behold, the studio was convenient to the lobby at BWV, and the 2 bedroom was not, and were on different floors. My sister and brother-in-law in the studio were totally upset with ME.

That may not be an issue with 2, 2-bedrooms, but I would probably weight which of the 2 above situations would be more likely.

Just wanted to say thanks for all your thoughts! I think I am leaning toward the GV for the certain high floor and also because I think that despite the "comotion" of all being together, that the family in their own villa might feel left out a bit. Although that is assuming I can get a GV reservation. I will certainly call right at 11 month mark, but I guess the good news is I still have a great alternative in the 2 villa option if we can't book the gv. THANKS AGAIN for sharing all your ideas and experiences.

Good luck and here is the pixie dust that the GV is available!!! pixiedust:
